WHAT…A…DAY!!!!!!
Today was Sports Day at Forge - lots of athletics, fun and good vibes!
A huge thank you to Mr Migan - I think we can all agree his planning and ex*****on was faultless and ensured that all children felt included and successful!
Thank you to Natalie and the PTA for tea, coffee, buns, ice pops, orange slices, sound system and all your support…there are so many things we just couldn’t do without you!
Thank you Keith - your compère skills were truly legendary and really added to the happy atmosphere!
Thank you also to Wellington College Belfast for the use of your pitch - we were truly blessed to have this space!
The children had a ball, parents and families spent some time in the sun and I’m sure everyone will sleep well tonight!

Today we returned to school after yesterday’s early closure, and we couldn’t be prouder of the children. We approached the challenging issues currently playing out in our society openly and honestly, using our integrated ethos and anti‑bias curriculum to guide us. We listened to the children’s thoughts, fears, and questions, and we reassured every single one of them that school is a safe place for them to learn, talk, and be heard.

In our wonderfully diverse community — where many families have been personally affected or deeply frightened — the children showed extraordinary maturity. They spoke about racism, about the danger of tarring whole groups of people with the same brush, and about why violence and hatred must always be challenged.

Their compassion, clarity, and courage remind us exactly why we do this work. We are so proud to be preparing these young people to take their place in society, and to shape a future rooted in understanding, fairness, and respect.

✨ What a fantastic staff development day!

As a whole staff team, we spent time reflecting on our school vision and ethos, working together to strengthen what makes our school such a special place ❤️

The highlight? Beginning to create our newly developed outdoor learning space!

We can’t wait to see it come to life for our children.

Entries are open for ‘Designed for Integration’: a card design competition to pupils from any Integrated school. This special competition is being held in memory of Brian Garrett, a Belfast lawyer who played a pivotal role in the development of the Integrated Education movement.

‘Designed for Integration’ invites children and young people to create a design for the front cover of a greetings card that is inspired by the theme ‘What Integrated Education Means to Me’. Each winning card will feature the first name, class and school of the winning designer.

The competition is open in four categories:

Foundation & Key Stage 1
Key Stage 2
Key Stage 3
Key Stage 4 & Years 13 and 14

Winning entries will be printed and used as official IEF greetings cards. Each school with a winning entry will receive a voucher for art supplies.

The deadline for entries is Friday 29 May at 12 noon.

Schools will be notified of the winning entries before the summer break and winners will be invited to celebrate their success as part of the Carson Awards Showcase in October 2026.

Guidelines for entry

The competition is open to any pupil of an Integrated nursery, primary school or college. Entries should be submitted to the appropriate Key Stage category.
Designs should be size A5 (half of an A4 page, so the front of the card will be A5 size). The artwork can be intended for either a vertical or horizontally folded card.
Entries should be submitted either in scanned copy and emailed as an attachment to [email protected], or posted in hard copy to: Molly Goyer Gorman, Integrated Education Fund, Forestview, Purdy’s Lane, Belfast BT8 7AR.
Artworks should be inspired by the theme ‘What Integrated Education Means to Me’ and should be suitable for featuring on a multi-purpose greetings card.
Each entry should be accompanied by a covering form which can be downloaded below.
Schools will be notified of the winners before the summer break.
The judges’ decision is final.

For more information, please email [email protected] or phone 028 9069 4099.
