Well done to Year 14 pupils Emily, Lexie, Ellen and Henry, each of whom performed alongside the Belfast Philharmonic Choir and Ulster Orchestra at the opening concert of the 2026-27 Ulster Orchestra Season, staged in the Ulster Hall last Friday evening.

Emily and Lexie participated as members of the Belfast Philharmonic Youth Choir, while Ellen and Henry performed with the National Youth Senior Choir of Northern Ireland, alongside former GGS pupils Amy and Gabriel.

Our Grosvenor pupils represented the school with distinction, demonstrating outstanding musical talent and professionalism in a stirring performance of Beethoven's ‘Ode to Joy’.

Congratulations to each of them on this remarkable achievement. We are immensely proud of their dedication, talent and success.

Congratulations to Joshua, Year 8, who has been selected to represent Team Ireland at the Arnis World Championships in October.

Arnis is a form of stick fighting, and October’s championships will mark the second occasion on which Joshua has been selected to compete on the world stage.

Well done to Joshua on this fantastic achievement, and best of luck at the championships.

Congratulations to Henry (Year 14) who, along with Gabriel (Class of ’26), is the proud recipient of this year’s Lee Family Shield and Bursary Award.

The Award is named after Grosvenor's first ever Head of Music, the late Ronnie Lee OBE, whose family generously present an annual music bursary to assist worthy music students with their studies at a high level.

Having represented Grosvenor as members of the National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland over the summer, Henry and Gabriel are worthy recipients of this award, which recognises their impressive talent and dedication to GGS music over many years.

Many thanks to representatives from Queen’s and Edinburgh Napier Universities, who spoke to Years 13 and 14 today during General Studies. Year 13 received a talk regarding the popular Q.U.B ‘Pathway Opportunity Programme’, which a number of our students have benefited from over recent years. Year 14, meanwhile, benefitted from a talk about all that Edinburgh Napier has to offer, as well as more general information about studying in Scotland.

Yesterday morning saw the School presented with a prestigious National Identity and Cultural Expression (NICE) Award during Junior Assembly.

Linked to the Identity and Language Act (2022), the award recognises schools that promote cultural diversity, inclusion, reconciliation and respect for different identities. Through Grosvenor’s core values of Relationships, Respect and Responsibility, the School has demonstrated a strong commitment to creating a welcoming environment for all.

Yesterday saw pupils invited to enter our annual European Day of Languages Bake-off, staged in the Home Economics Department.

The staff were very impressed with the entries on show and, based on appearance and taste, decided on awards for the following entrants:

James - Year 9 (Spanish cake)
Rebecca - Year 9 (German cake)
Hannah and Koushikha - Year 9 (Ramen bowl)
Osgar - Year 8 (Black forest gateau)

The Junior Prize Distribution took place on Thursday 24 September. The guest speaker was past pupil and current Northern Ireland International Footballer, Megan Bell. She was interviewed by her fellow ‘Grosvenorite’, Mr Winters, about the ups and downs of her career and what advice she would share with our current pupils. It was an inspiring message and we are very grateful to Megan for giving of her time on Thursday to inspire the next generation. Well done to all the prize winners!

Our Annual Senior Prize Distribution took place last week on Wednesday 23 September. The Guest Speaker was Rev David Leach, a past pupil and currently the minister in Portrush Presbyterian Church. He delivered a most engaging, humorous and inspiring speech to the pupils and we are grateful for his time on Wednesday. We were also delighted to welcome back Mr Richard Pengelly, Chief Executive of the Education Authority, and thank him for taking the time to visit us. Congratulations to all the Prize Winners.

German Exchange 🇩🇪

The pupils and staff said their farewells to the Evangelisches Gymnasium for another year 🥲 but they look forward to seeing them in Grosvenor in March 2027. They are through Düsseldorf Airport and on their way home. ✈️

Behind every unforgettable school trip is a team of extraordinary staff working tirelessly to give pupils incredible experiences which will live long in the memory - well done to the German Department. 👏
