Mere Football Festival

The penultimate football event of the year saw Team Motcombe travel to the Mere Football Festival with a spirited all-Year 5 squad, as Year 6 were away on residential. Despite being one of the youngest teams in attendance, the group of eight players showed outstanding determination, teamwork, and resilience throughout the afternoon.

Facing strong competition from six other schools, Motcombe rose to the challenge superbly. Their hard work and dedication paid off as they secured an impressive second place overall, scoring 9 goals and conceding just 2—a fantastic achievement that reflects both attacking flair and defensive solidity.

In goal, Harry delivered a commanding performance, spending half the games between the posts and making several crucial saves. He dominated his area with confidence, and when outfield, he proved just as impactful—taking shots and creating opportunities for his teammates.

Sam, the team’s other goalkeeper, was equally outstanding. He controlled his area brilliantly and produced one of the moments of the tournament with a remarkable drop-kick goal from his own goal area, leaving the opposition in awe.

Defensively, Ivy was once again exceptional, making vital tackles and consistently playing intelligent balls forward to launch attacks. Alongside her, Abel commanded central defence, breaking up opposition play while also supporting forward movement and tracking back when needed.

Making his first appearance for the school, Lucas delivered a superb performance—chasing every ball with relentless energy and finishing as joint top scorer with 3 goals.

James provided a calm and composed presence, always reliable on the ball. His tireless work rate helped regain possession and create numerous attacking opportunities, and he was rewarded with a well-earned goal.

Ralph showed great determination throughout, using the ball effectively and taking plenty of shots. His efforts paid off as he found the back of the net and consistently posed a threat going forward.

Finally, Rory was outstanding across the pitch, demonstrating excellent tackling, passing, and movement. His ability to spread play wide and lead attacks saw him also finish as joint top scorer with 3 goals.

Overall, it was a fantastic team performance and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. The squad’s effort, attitude, and skill highlight a bright future for next year’s team.

Go Team Motcombe! ⚽

Davison Cup Quarter-Final Match Report
Motcombe vs Buckland Newton
6-0 WIN

Motcombe delivered a superb performance in the quarter-finals of the Davison Cup, securing an impressive victory over Buckland Newton with a confident display from start to finish.

From the opening whistle, Motcombe looked sharp and composed. Their passing was crisp and purposeful, spreading the ball out wide and making excellent use of the wings. The wide play quickly paid off as dangerous crosses began to trouble the Buckland Newton defence.

The breakthrough came early when Elliot found the back of the net, setting the tone perfectly for the afternoon. Motcombe continued to build momentum and play with confidence, creating chance after chance. Elliot struck again to double his tally, showing great composure in front of goal.

Motcombe’s attacking pressure continued as Alfie rose highest in the box to power home a brilliant header, while Rory added another with a superb strike from the edge of the area. To cap off the scoring, a dangerous Motcombe attack forced an unfortunate own goal from a Buckland Newton defender.

Despite the scoreline, Buckland Newton came out strongly in the second half and created several good opportunities. However, Motcombe goalkeeper Abel was outstanding, producing a determined performance to keep a well-earned clean sheet.

At the back, Daniel and Ash were excellent throughout, working tirelessly to keep the opposition attackers at bay and maintaining a solid defensive line.

In midfield, Sam was immensely strong, showing great confidence and control in the centre of the pitch. His partnership with Harry was a real highlight of the match, with the pair working together brilliantly, moving fluidly across positions and proving difficult for Buckland Newton to contain.

Overall, it was a fantastic team performance from Motcombe — strong in attack, solid in defence, and full of confidence throughout — earning them a well-deserved place in the Davison Cup semi-finals. ⚽👏

Thank you to the wonderful supporters on the side as well as the Year 3/4 football club for the second half cheering loudly for Team Motcombe

Team Motcombe’s Year 3 and 4 pupils enjoyed a fantastic Development Football Festival today with a celebration of teamwork, skill-building and, most importantly, sporting spirit.

The festival began with an exciting carousel of activities designed to challenge and inspire the children. From dribbling drills and passing challenges to shooting practice and teamwork-based games, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The sessions were brilliantly supported by two outstanding sports leaders, Isabelle – a former Motcombe student – and Matilda. Their encouragement, energy and clear demonstrations helped the children grow in confidence and really make the most of every activity.

After sharpening their skills, Team Motcombe moved into competitive matches – and what a performance they delivered! The children were fantastic throughout, not only showcasing their developing football abilities but also demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship. They encouraged one another, respected their opponents and played with smiles on their faces – a true credit to the school.

It was wonderful to see so many pupils trying different positions and stepping out of their comfort zones. Orla and Teddy both made some superb saves in goal, showing bravery and quick reactions between the posts. Max also impressed with a series of great tackles before enjoying a brilliant stint in goal himself.

Up front, Hector worked exceptionally hard as striker, constantly pressing and creating opportunities. In defence, Jess was a superstar at the back, reading the game brilliantly and making crucial interceptions. Albert and Zach both shone in midfield, linking play with confidence and energy. Harry demonstrated excellent tackling skills and tracked back tirelessly to support his teammates, while Ella made some fantastic runs, adding pace and attacking threat to the team’s play. A small addition from Ryan in the final game was also great to see!

Every single player contributed to a wonderful team performance, and their positive attitudes truly stood out across the festival.

Well done, Team Motcombe ⚽👏

Davison Cup Final Round Match Report
Motcombe vs Mere

The final round of the Davison Cup saw Team Motcombe put in a truly dominant performance, showcasing confident tackling, sharp passing, and a fearless attitude in front of goal. From the first whistle to the last, the girls played with determination, belief and real team spirit — a performance to be immensely proud of.

At the back, Lowen commanded her huge area with total confidence. Nothing fazed her, and she demonstrated once again just how far she can launch the ball — those throws travelled very far and repeatedly turned defence into attack in seconds!

In central defence, Elsa was an absolute force to be reckoned with. Calm, strong and composed, she barely allowed anything past her. Time and time again she shut down opposition attacks, holding the defensive line brilliantly.

Georgia put in an immense display, with powerful, well-timed tackling that stopped the opposition in their tracks. Her vision was equally impressive, threading some fantastic through balls into midfield to spark attacking moves.

Olivia delivered a superb all-round performance. Confident in every tackle and brave in pushing up the field, she supported both defence and attack seamlessly, showing great awareness and energy throughout.

Bea showed incredible determination, with strong tackling and relentless chasing. She never gave up on a single ball, applying pressure constantly and refusing to let the opposition settle.

Ivy worked tirelessly from start to finish. Her confident dribbling created opportunities, her tackling won back possession, and her work rate ensured she was always in the right place at the right time.

And then there was Lily, our scorer of the game. She was relentless in attack, having shot after shot and keeping the opposition defence under constant pressure. Her determination paid off with a well-earned goal, capping off a fantastic attacking display.

The final score finished 1–1, but this was a game Team Motcombe truly dominated. The result does not fully reflect the performance, and the girls have so much to celebrate from their Davison Cup journey this year.

We are immensely proud of everything they have achieved in their Davison Cup rounds.

Well done, Team Motcombe!
