🏆 Blyth & Bedlington Bowls Competition 🏆

Last week, we were hosted by John New Delaval Knights BC Club for our very first Blyth and Bedlington Bowls Competition!

Three schools took part in the event. Which consisted off a skills festival, followed by a scored challenge to determine the overall results.

Each school had a one-hour session to take part alongside their classmates, creating a supportive environment that encouraged participation without the pressure of direct head-to-head competition. This format was perfect for pupils who may find traditional competition challenging but still want to get active and enjoy sport.

For all the pupils involved, bowls was a new experience, and we were blown away by their enthusiasm and teamwork throughout.

A huge thank you to the Blyth Academy sport leaders who ran our skills stations with great positivity. Especially as the sport was new to them too!

On Wednesday, Blyth and Bedlington School Games joined with Cramlington & Seaton Valley School Games to host a SEN-only Golf Skills Festival at Blyth Leisure Centre.

Delivered in partnership with local coaching company Swingstars, who designed a series of skill stations for the children to enjoy.
Throughout the afternoon, pupils worked their way around six different ‘holes’ set out across the sports hall, developing their coordination, confidence and teamwork skills while having fun and trying something new.

After completing all six skill zones, children were encouraged to reflect on their experience using question cards to prompt discussion. They shared how they had surprised themselves and in what ways they felt proud of their achievements.

One pupil commented "my favourite was the one with the pipes, it wasn't easy but it was good when it went in!" and a teacher reported that "the children really enjoyed the session and were beaming when they returned to school"

We are incredibly proud of all the young people who took part and demonstrated such enthusiasm, resilience and positivity.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the festival such a success.

Blyth and Bedlington School Games recently hosted a Tag Rugby Festival for children in year 3 and 4 from across the area.

126 pupils across 7 schools came to Blyth Rugby and Cricket Club to take part in Megafest of Rugby Union skills and games. The event was delivered by coaches from the Newcastle Rugby Foundation

The event focused on introducing Rugby Union to a new cohort, most of whom had never played the game before, showcasing their local rugby in Blyth and most importantly having a positive experience of sport. All to push towards a key principle of school games in our mission of improving the Physical Literacy of children and young people.

Our thanks goes to the Newcastle Rugby Foundation coaches and to the teachers for bringing their children along.

It’s Inclusive Health Check week!

A week dedicated to self-assessing your inclusive provision at school. By completing the inclusive health check at least annually, schools can track improvements in inclusive practice and generate measurable evidence to support internal development and external reporting. Sections can be revisited and updated at any time, providing flexibility for ongoing review. After rating your confidence in supporting specific groups, schools receive tailored resource suggestions to create an action plan to guide next steps. Completion of the inclusive health check is also a mandatory part of the School Games Mark application contributing to achieving a School Games Mark award.

Girls Football Event

Today Blyth and Bedlington School Games hosted a Development Girls Football event as part of the Barclays Girls Football Biggest Ever Session at NET Blyth Academy.

Our event focused on developing athletes. This meant we could provide an opportunity for those girls who aren’t normally selected for school matches but would love the opportunity to play.

The girls played to play competitively against another schools across an afternoon. Despite the rain the girls were enthusiastic throughout and had a great afternoon.

Well done to Blyth Horton Grange Primary School and Meadowdale Academy for finishing 1st and 3rd respectively in the Y3 Northumberland Multi Skills finals.
