I'm now taking a well-deserved break and will be on annual leave until Monday 3rd August.

It's been an incredibly busy and rewarding year so far, and I'm looking forward to spending some quality time with my family and recharging.

Reading reviews like this really does mean so much.

Before working independently, my role as a SENDCo in schools gave me extensive experience of the EHCP application and appeals process. I understand how complex and overwhelming it can feel for families trying to secure the right support.

Alongside diagnostic assessments, I occasionally support families through consultancy work, helping to gather the evidence needed for EHCP applications or appeals, ensuring a child’s needs are clearly understood and evidenced.

It was so lovely to read this review. Knowing that another young person will now receive the support they need in education makes all the hard work worthwhile.

I’m often asked, “Why can’t I get an appointment sooner?”
Each assessment involves much more than the session itself. We need time to gather background information, conduct a detailed assessment, and produce a comprehensive, high-quality report with clear recommendations.

Because of this level of detail and care, a limited number of appointments are available each week.

Do you feel like you’re working twice as hard as everyone else just to keep up with reading, writing or exams?

Many students reach college or university before realising their difficulties may be linked to dyslexia or another specific learning difference.

A diagnostic assessment can provide clarity and may allow you to apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA), which can fund helpful support such as specialist software, assistive technology, study skills support and exam adjustments.

DSA applications can take time to process, so having an assessment before starting university can help ensure support is in place as early as possible.

If you are preparing for university or already studying and finding things harder than they should be, it may be worth exploring whether a diagnostic assessment could help.

📚 A day of CPD focused on Dyscalculia and SpLD in Maths

Today I’m attending Beyond the Numbers: Understanding Dyscalculia and SpLD in Maths, a full day of professional development sponsored by Nessy and hosted by the Dyscalculia Network.

Continuing professional development is so important as a SpLD assessor. Research, understanding and best practice are constantly evolving, and staying up to date ensures the assessments and advice I provide are grounded in the latest evidence.

Today’s sessions will explore:
• Cognitive understanding and assessment of dyscalculia
• Variations in cognitive profiles in individuals with dyscalculia
• Insights from lived experience
• The difference between dyscalculia and general maths learning difficulties
• Practical strategies and inclusive approaches to support learners
• Using manipulatives and games to build mathematical understanding

Looking forward to a day of learning that will ultimately help me better support children, young people and adults with maths difficulties.
