We had a wonderful Q&A session in the Embroidery Club today with lots of questions not only about machine embroidery, but also sewing feet, overlockers, cover stitch machines too! 🤩

We covered:
🪡 How to prevent holes in knit fabrics
🧵Thread shredding issues
💦 When to use a water soluble topper
🔥 How to effectively remove hoop burn from fabrics
🦶🏼 Sewing machine, overlocker & coverstitch feet
🤩 Along with a little show and tell and an exciting catwalk update from one of our very own Sewing Bee 🐝

One question made us all think - what tape do you use for machine embroidery? We're talking about when you need to temporarily hold a piece of fabric, or a zip in position while the machine stitches in down. It could be appliqué or while adding a piece of fabric to the back of the hoop. 🤔

I use a few different types:
Washing tape
Masking tape
Sweet Pea embroidery tape

One member uses micropore tape! 🤕

Today in our Embroidery Club masterclass, we unlocked the secrets to flawless, professional results on soft, stretchy knits!

Here’s what we dived into today:
🧵 Real-world stabiliser testing to find the ultimate foundations for pucker-free knits.
⚡ Two hooping methods to avoid catching the back of the t-shirt under the needle - no one wants that!
🎨 How to select the most suitable embroidery designs - like open-work patterns and light line designs - that wears comfortably and holds up wash after wash.

We had a Sew Along this month in the Embroidery Club 🪡

I made this Thread Spool Zipper Purse from Sweet Pea Embroidery Designs live on Zoom, with a little twist - adding some old thread scraps as the thread part of the spool! 🧵 I knew I'd use them one day! 😂

Today’s Embroidery Club masterclass was all about quick and easy makes - projects that stitch up fast but still look absolutely gorgeous ✨

We focused on three beautiful designs from Sweet Pea that are perfect for gifts, craft fairs or just a satisfying afternoon sew:

This month in the Embroidery Club we dived into combining dressmaking and machine embroidery 🧵

From choosing the right patterns, fabrics and designs, to deciding when to add embroidery during the making process ✂️

We covered how to plan for the best results which stabilisers to use, placement, testing, and practical tips for embroidering garment panels with confidence 💪🏻

I started making some Roan trousers, embroidering Tula Pink Everglow embroidery designs from OESD down the side panel of the trousers. 🦁🌸

Obviously Bruno had to help me with the cutting out! 😸

Can't wait to get them finished now 👖😍

A wonderfully different day at work today as we welcomed 7 lucky competition winners to take part in a mini Sewing Bee 🧵 🐝

They created some fabulous alterations on their Singer sewing machines, and to top it all off, the lovely Patrick Grant was there to judge their creations! ☺️

Had the best time at our latest Embroidery Club Masterclass sharing my tips & tricks for creating free-standing Christmas designs. 🎄

To show the process in action, I stitched up this adorable gingerbread house (design from oesd.com) — and it turned out sweet enough to eat! (But don't eat it!! 😆) 🍬🏠🎄
