Education and empowerment through pregnancy, birth and beyond.

Another mindful minute to remind you what a contraction or surge can look like in active labour.

45-90 seconds with breaks in between, not a constant barrage of intense pain like they show in the movies.

Visualisation can be a super useful tool to help you to breathe through these contractions.

I love a bit of nature, so my visualisations for myself will always include it! But it's whatever brings YOU oxytocin and good vibes.

Want to learn more about the reality of labour? I've got a new course starting in July and I'd love to see you there.

Book on via the link in my bio, or check out my website:

Private classes are also available starting at just £40 for you and as many birth partners as you like ❤️

Does anyone remember in school getting your mates to turn the hand dryers on whilst you went for a wee so no one could hear you?

In birth we need privacy too!

That doesn't mean having no one around you if that feels right for you, but it does mean being undisturbed, being able to get into the zone, and not having strangers forcibly interacting with you when it's not necessary.

Your birth space should feel safe.

Plus, you'll probably p**p when giving birth anyway, so think about it from that angle 😂

Want to learn more about the science of our bodies and brains in a down to earth way? Book onto a birth prep course with me or DM me to learn about private classes!

Things that can go wrong with weddings:
- the venue cancels due to flooding, closure, fire, short staff etc
- the caterer gets sick and cancels last minute
- the photographer you've booked breaks their cameras the night before
- your best friend gets sick and can't make it
- literally so many other things

Does that mean you don't plan your wedding? I highly doubt it!

So why do we do this with birth?

We hear so often that we should just 'go with the flow' and that there's no point making a plan because it won't all work out.

This is nonsense! Birth will be one of, if not THE, biggest day of your life, and we need to start treating it as such.

Yes, it's unlikely that every single point on your birth plan will go smoothly, but that doesn't mean birth planning doesn't matter.

You identify what's important to you. You make a plan A, B and C. You figure out how to move your non negotiable into your plan B and C.

Want to learn how to build a birth plan that will actually work? DM me to book a free call to discuss how I can help you build the badass birth of your dreams - or head to my websites to book now (link in bio).

Take a mindful minute to enjoy this beautiful scenery from our recent weekend away 🦆

TV and film show labour as if it's a constant state of intense contractions and hours of endless pain.

In reality, most of labour is pretty calm, with breaks in between each contraction, contractions at their most intense being roughly 45-90 seconds, and the peak of those contractions often only lasting around 15 seconds for many people.

Personally, I had my first mild contractions on a Monday night. Days of very minor contractions every now and then, often when I was in bed at night. On and off. Very manageable. It wasn't until the Friday night that they starting ramping up. On Saturday morning they hit enough frequency that I contacted the midwife to let them know, but stayed at home without a midwife until after 3pm after they calmed down a bit again, when I went into the hospital because there were no home birth midwives available (that's a story for another day!) and birthed my beautiful daughter just before 6pm.

Yes, the last couple of hours were intense. Yes, I went through the classic transition period of 'I can't do this!'. But I look back on it with the fondest of memories and the most intense phase was so short and manageable because I was prepared and had my hypnobirthing tools at the ready.

That's why I became a hypnobirthing teacher. I want to give others the gift of an empowered, calm, informed birth - whatever that means for you!

My next course starts in Bebington at on 5th May, and I have limited availability for private workshops and courses.

Not sure? DM me for a chat to discuss how hypnobirthing can transform your birthing and pregnancy experience.

You deserve this 💪

Ferning: have you heard of it?

Amniotic fluid does something truly incredible when you place it under a microscope, and if it's not a sign that we're a part of nature then I don't know what is!

The sodium chloride (salt) and protein found in amniotic fluid create beautiful crystalline patterns that resemble ferns when you zoom in, in a process called arborisation (fun fact: arbor is Latin for tree).

When premature rupture of membranes is thought to occur (i.e. your waters breaking early), it's one of the tests that can be done to determine whether it really is your amniotic fluid and you've not just had a swift kick to the bladder 🥴

This fern like pattern can also be a sign of ovulation in non pregnant people, as oestrogen rich cervical fluid has a similar effect!

Anyone else want to buy themselves a microscope and hang their cervical or amniotic fluid on the living room wall?!
