A message from Keith Buck (Governor)

As I’ve now completed my term as a governor at Kingsmoor Primary School, I’ve been reflecting on what has been a genuinely rewarding experience.

Over the last four years, I’ve seen first-hand the challenges that every school faces. There have been some incredibly difficult decisions to make, all while navigating pressures from parents, the local authority, government, budgets and ever-changing legislation. From the outside, it’s easy to miss just how much work happens behind the scenes, with very little recognition.

What has stood out to me throughout is that every decision, every discussion and every hour of hard work has had one clear purpose: giving the children the very best education and school experience possible.

As a parent, I’ve had children attend three other primary schools, all of which were good schools that served my family well. But having now seen Kingsmoor from the inside, I can honestly say it operates at a level I’ve not experienced before. The commitment, professionalism and genuine care shown by the leadership team, staff and governors is something to be incredibly proud of.

Like any school, Kingsmoor will always face criticism from time to time. That’s part of public life. But having seen the complexity of balancing so many competing demands while always putting children first, I have nothing but respect for everyone involved.

Although I’m stepping down as a governor, my son still has a few years left at Kingsmoor, and I couldn’t be happier knowing he’ll continue to be supported by such a dedicated team, alongside every other child at the school.

For me personally, serving as a governor has been enlightening, challenging and incredibly rewarding. I wanted to give something back because my own experience of the education system in the 1970s and 80s wasn’t a positive one. This role has shown me just how much education has evolved and just how fortunate our children are to have a school like Kingsmoor.

Thank you to everyone I’ve had the privilege of working alongside. Kingsmoor is a truly special school. If you’re part of its community, embrace it—you have something very special.

K Buck.
