🐻🌳 Just a little Bentley popping onto your feed....

It's been a little while since I shared this little bear and I couldn't let him disappear for too long! ❤️

It still feels slightly surreal knowing that The Adventures of Bentley the Bear is out there in the world, being read at bedtime and going on Adventures with little readers. 🥹📚

Bentley started as a few sketches for a university project, so seeing how far he has come still makes me smile every time I look at him.

I think I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for this little bear. 🐻❤️

If you haven't met Bentley yet, The Adventures of Bentley the Bear is available on Amazon for little readers under 5. 🌳📚

🐻❤️ A little thank you from me and Bentley… ❤️🐻

What a week it has been! 🥹📚

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported the launch of The Adventures of Bentley the Bear.

Whether you’ve bought a copy, liked or shared my posts, sent me a lovely message or simply cheered me on from the sidelines, I really do appreciate every bit of support. ❤️

Seeing Bentley finally out in the world after all the hours spent drawing, experimenting and bringing his little adventures to life has been such a special feeling.

A big thank you also to for helping me bring Bentley’s story to life and into the hands of little readers. 🐻📚

I hope everyone who has welcomed Bentley into their homes enjoys getting to know him and joining him on his adventures. It means so much to think of my little bear being enjoyed by other families. 🥹

Thank you for making Bentley’s very first launch week so special! ❤️

🐻✏️ Before Bentley was Bentley…

Swipe to see Bentley then ➡️ Bentley now!

Every character has to start somewhere, and this is where my little bear began. ❤️

These were some of my very first sketches of Bentley, created while I was developing him for a university illustration brief. At this point I was experimenting with everything - his shape, expressions, clothes and personality - with absolutely no idea that one day he’d end up on the front of his own book! 🥹📚

It took lots of sketching (and quite a few different Bentleys 😂) before I found the little bear who felt right.

Looking back at these early drawings now and comparing them to the finished Bentley is probably one of my favourite parts of this whole journey. He’s changed quite a bit, but I can still see little pieces of him in those very first sketches. 🐻❤️

And now that little university character is officially a published children’s book character. That still feels very strange to say! 😂

🐻🌳 A little behind the scenes of Bentley’s world…

One of my favourite parts of creating The Adventures of Bentley the Bear was finding different ways to bring texture into the illustrations.

All of the trees, leaves and backgrounds you see throughout Bentley’s adventures actually started with rubbings taken from different materials and everyday objects. ✏️🍃

I experimented with different surfaces and textures, then brought those rubbings into my illustrations and used them to build up Bentley’s woodland world layer by layer.

I love that something as simple as a rubbing can become the bark of a tree, a collection of leaves or part of a forest floor and it means the backgrounds have that slightly imperfect, handmade feel that I wanted for Bentley. ❤️

It’s funny to think that all those little experiments from my university project eventually became part of a real published book! 🥹📚

🐻📚 TODAY’S THE DAY… BENTLEY IS OFFICIALLY HERE! 📚🐻

I still can’t quite believe I get to write this, but The Adventures of Bentley the Bear is officially published! 🥹❤️

Bentley started as a university project during the first year of my illustration degree, inspired by my little girl. At the time, he was simply a character I was creating for a brief — I never imagined that little bear would eventually find his way into a real children’s book.

Watching him grow from those first pencil sketches into the Bentley you see today has been such a special journey, and seeing my illustrations and my name on the front of an actual book feels completely surreal. 🐻✨

A massive thank you to Discover Your Bounce Publishing for believing in Bentley and helping me turn my little idea into a published book, and to everyone who has encouraged and supported me along the way. ❤️

Bentley is ready to head off on his adventures, and I really hope the little readers who meet him enjoy exploring alongside him. 🌳🐻🎒

I think my name is sewn on somewhere.

Perhaps the teacher will read it for me.

Tea-cher. The one who makes the tea.

I wish I could remember my name.

Mummy said it would come in useful.

Like wellies.
When there's puddles.
Yellow wellies.

I wish she was here.
