☀️ Strong Young Mindz – Summer Holiday Top Tips ☀️
The summer holidays are a wonderful time to make memories, but they can also be challenging for children who thrive on routine. Here are some simple ways to help your child feel calm, happy and settled.
🌈 Keep a Simple Routine
Children don't need a strict timetable, but having a predictable structure helps them feel safe. Try to keep wake-up times, mealtimes and bedtimes fairly consistent.
🎨 Plan One Activity Each Day
You don't need to entertain your child all day! Aim for just one planned activity each day, such as baking, a walk, crafts, a park visit or a board game.
🧠 Encourage Independence
Give children small jobs such as feeding the pet, helping prepare lunch, tidying toys or watering plants. Responsibility builds confidence.
😊 Focus on Connection
Even 10–15 minutes of uninterrupted time together can make a big difference. Put phones away and let your child choose an activity.
🏃 Burn Off Energy
Outdoor play, dancing, obstacle courses or bike rides can help children regulate their emotions and improve behaviour.
❤️ Name Feelings
If emotions run high, help your child recognise what they're feeling.
"I can see you're feeling frustrated because our plans changed."
Feeling understood helps children calm more quickly.
⭐ Catch the Good
Notice and praise positive behaviour.
Instead of saying "Good job," try:
"I noticed how kind you were to your sister."
"You kept trying even when it was tricky."
🌙 Wind Down Before Bed
A calm bedtime routine with reduced screen time, a story and quiet conversation can help everyone end the day more peacefully.
Remember… children don't need perfect parents—they need calm, connected adults who help them feel safe and understood.
