Pencoedtre Darts Club – A Fantastic Start!

Our first Darts Club took place this evening, and what a fantastic turnout!

It was brilliant to see so many pupils getting involved, especially our more experienced players taking the time to coach and encourage those who are new to the game.

A great example of teamwork, support and pupils learning from one another.

Well done to everyone who came along!

Dear Parent/Carer,

On Monday, we will be launching a new attendance competition, ‘Don’t Ghost School!’, aimed at encouraging excellent attendance among learners in Years 7, 8 and 9 during the final 10 school days before the half-term break.

The competition will run from Monday 12 October to Friday 23 October 2026, with the aim of achieving 100% attendance throughout this period.

Learners will have the opportunity to win prizes in recognition of their excellent attendance, providing a fun and positive way to celebrate the end of the half-term while reinforcing the importance of attending school every day.

We appreciate your continued support in ensuring that your child attends school regularly and punctually, and we look forward to seeing our learners rise to the challenge!

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Weekly Numeracy Quick Win: The Kitchen Recipe Scale-Up 🍕

Cooking together is one of the easiest ways to master fractions, ratios, and proportion without opening a textbook!

Next time you’re preparing dinner or baking at home, hand the recipe to your child and try this:

• Scale the servings: If a recipe is written for 4 people, ask them to calculate the exact ingredient amounts needed for 6 (multiplying by 1.5) or for 2 (halving everything).

• Unit conversions: Challenge them to switch between units. How many millilitres are in 0.75 litres of milk? If a pack of flour is 1.5kg, how many grams remain after using 350g?

• Timing backwards: If dinner takes 45 minutes to cook and needs 15 minutes to rest, what time does the oven need to be on so you can eat at 6:30 PM?

Working fluidly with ratios and unit changes is a core skill tested across GCSE foundation and higher papers.
