Week 6 of our Summer of fun & adventures!

Today we had a full day at Amelia Trust Farm with friends.

The Butterflies were very much looking forward to the reptile interaction, me, not so keen 😳.

They asked relevant questions and embraced the whole experience choosing whether to hold, touch, or just look at each animal. I was so proud of how patient they all were, taking their turn and being respectful of others as well as adhering to the rules too. 👏

We had a sociable picnic together before enjoying the open space of the field to run about in. The farm offers to much entertainment for us all and we are grateful for our annual pass to be able to visit as often as we like.

A great way to start our week

When you’re out and about with children, you’ve already thought about keeping them safe. But what happens if you’re the one who has an accident or medical emergency?

At our September members-only session, Karean Carr, registered childminder and creator of LittleLink ID, will introduce a simple safeguarding measure designed specifically with outings in mind.

You’ll see how LittleLink ID can help emergency responders identify the children currently in your care and access the right parent-verified emergency information - while keeping the amount of data held about children to a minimum.

🗓️ 17 September 2026
⏰ 7pm–8pm
💻 Online | Members only

We’ll also look at where LittleLink ID fits alongside the safeguarding procedures you already have in place.

Hepatitis A vaccine walk-ins now available!

From today (August 21), children aged 1-5 who live in Barry, or attend a childcare or education setting in Barry, can get a free hepatitis A vaccination without booking an appointment.

Simply turn up to Barry Hospital (CF62 8YH) for the vaccination clinics which are open from 9am to 5pm on weekdays and Saturdays until Saturday, September 5.

A huge “thank you” to the hundreds of Barry residents who received their texts and have already booked their children for a hepatitis A vaccine. Your support will help reduce the further spread of infection.

The end of our week here at Butterflies and today we had a 2nd settling in session for our new little 🦋joining us in Sept.

My other 🦋 was on hand with kindness and great sharing skills and helped them to explore some of our loose parts and our Treasure basket too.

It’s endearing to see kindness and sharing being displayed without being prompted just authentically happening as play develops 🥰

Being recognised as a Practice worth sharing’ at my last inspection for my commitment to social and emotional learning was truly a proud moment. Being graded as Excellent for Care & Development along with Well-being by CIW was a big pat on the back too and these are areas we focus on daily.

Talking about our feelings and emotions forms part of our routine as all feelings/emotions are OK. It’s how we deal with those feelings & emotions that are either OK or NOT OK. We learn these lifetime skills at a young age here at Butterflies 🦋😊.

A damp start to our Wednesday and it felt cooler too!
We chatted over breakfast and decided that a trip to the garden centre to see the fish was our plan!

“Who’s joining us today?” Asked one of the 🦋’s.
Part of the magic of childminders is that no 2 days are quite the same, new adventures to have with different friends from other settings and always the opportunity to play and learn.

The school holidays have been an opportunity to reconnect with friends we only see occasionally and pick up where they left off

Today we spent time watching the fish, spotting super hero fish tank accessories, a play on the equipment and a pit stop for snacks and a ☕️ 😃.

An endearing moment when on 2 separate occasions members of the public approach and say “ooo I love seeing the children having fun” as opposed to raised eyebrows and the comment “wow you have your hands full” .
Proud childminder moments 👏😊 🦋

This afternoon we will have some time for rest and then some freely chosen resources at the setting😊

Another lovely day spent having fun with friends out and about in the community 🦋

Week 5 and a much fresher feel with rain in the air 👏👏.

Another settling in session this morning and we headed out to Romilly park. We met our friends from Poppins Daycare - Sarah Sharpe Registered Childminder and it was great to see friends playing together and catching up with news.

The tree climbing was great to see although a few heart palpitations too 🤪

We were surprised to find some early conker husks and when we cracked them open some revealed small brown conkers while others were surprisingly white and soft! Being out in nature offers so many opportunities for learning, not just a play in the park but an outside classroom.

Both Sarah and I had our trusted LittleLink ID with us on today’s adventure, it provides that extra level of safeguarding but also a lanyard that makes us visible and feel like the professionals that we are.

A different kind of Thursday at Butterflies Childcare today! 🦋💛

Usually, it’s just 1 little 🦋 with me, but today we welcomed two new butterflies for their settling-in sessions, ready to join us in September. And what a lovely session it was! 🥰

Both newbies thoroughly enjoyed exploring the resources, getting to know the space and having fun in our outdoor area. My existing 🦋 absolutely loved having some company and was super friendly and welcoming — it was lovely to see! 🥰

For me, settling-in sessions are about so much more than simply getting used to a new environment. I want every child who comes through my door to feel genuinely welcomed, safe, valued and at home. My setting is their little home-from-home, and building that sense of belonging from the very beginning is so important and today couldn’t have gone any better. 🏡🦋

Starting childcare and leaving your little one with someone new is such a big step for both children AND parents, so being able to see what they’re doing, with photo updates show parents just how they’re settling and those little happy moments can provide so much reassurance at what might feel like an anxious time📸💕

I already have a feeling these two little butterflies are going to fit into our setting beautifully and enjoy our adventures. 🦋🦋

One of the things I love most about being a childminder is having such a wonderful mix of ages together — from around 12 months right through to 8 years old. 🥰

Having different ages in one home-from-home setting brings so many opportunities for children to learn from one another, develop friendships, build confidence, practise kindness and naturally develop their communication and social skills. Older children can enjoy being role models and showing younger ones the ropes, while younger children benefit from watching, copying and learning from those around them. 🌱

I’m excited to see these new friendships develop and watch our little Butterflies family grow! 🥰
