We are gauging interest in opening our little forest school up again after Easter, would you be interested in joining?

🌳Our sessions are designed for children to connect to nature and its cycles, and we are looking at more ways we can incorporate permaculture into our After School Club and its key principles of: People Care, Earth Care and Fair Share. The summer term brings a bounty of natural resources and your children will be involved in story telling, games, tools for purpose, green building, gardening, natural crafts, fire lighting, cooking, foraging, making herbal remedies, mindfulness activities and lots and lots more child led fun!

🌳Our After School Club sessions are for 5-11year olds and will run from 3:15pm-5:15pm on Wednesdays during term time, and we can collect children from Barrowby CoE School on your request. The sessions cost £12 and additional siblings will receive a 20% discount. We are all about building our forest school family community 🙂

🌳We are also partnering up with a fabulous Level 3 Forest School Practitioner called Alice who has a degree in wildlife conservation, and experience in outdoor education and early years, as well as outdoor respite services for children in care to lead our Stay & Play sessions. These will happen on Mondays from 10-11:30am throughout the year and cost £8 for all walking kids and free for babes in arms.

We are so excited to be partnering up with the wonderful Alice for our Stay & Play forest school sessions after Easter!

Alice is a Level 3 Forest School Practitioner with a degree in wildlife conservation. She had tons of experience in outdoor education and early years, as well as outdoor respite services for children in care. She will be running Stay & Play sessions on Mondays from 10-11:30am during term time.

That’s a wrap! We finished another fabulous half term at Echo Tree with a spookily special session. This week we looked at the wonderful apple tree with apple bobbing, freshly squeezed apple juice and enjoying toffee apples. We also made conker spiders, pinecone bats and besom brooms which flew as if by magic! We had green spaghetti in the mud kitchen and had fun not waking up the spider as we crawled through the web maze.

We will be putting a pause on our forest school for the time being and hope to open again in February if the demand is there. Thank you to all the wonderful children and parents who have been part of our journey for the last two years, it has been such a pleasure getting to know you all and sharing our woodland fun with you and hope to see you in the woods again soon.

It was a soggy session this week but as our kids said “a perfect day for making mud pies!”

We started the session by talking about how to age trees. We counted rings and saw how some rings were more spread out which shows a good year for weather and water where more growth has occurred. We talked about the general rule that soft wood like pine grows fast and hard wood like oak grows slowly. We also looked at the fastest growing plant bamboo and talked about how it’s not a tree but a grass. We then headed off to visit an ancient mulberry tree, possibly the oldest trees in the village.

We then headed back to site where we had extra tarps set up and activities out to make a bamboo wind chime, the conker maze and oak stools and we had a go eat papier-mâché pumpkins with balloon and string. The children all showed a keen interest in fire lighting this week and all had a go with a flint and steel. Plus mud cakes were made!

We also played match a leaf to a tree Id game and ate apple flapjack. 😋

We are looking forward to our Halloween special next week! There will be lots of crafts, games, apple bobbing and making our own apple juice.
