What is a soft skill?

A soft skill is a personal attribute or personality trait that enhances an individual's ability to interact and work with others, manage their time, and adapt to changing situations. Unlike hard skills, which are specific to a particular job or profession, soft skills are transferable across different roles and industries.

Examples of soft skills include:

- Communication and active listening
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Time management and organization
- Adaptability and flexibility
- Problem-solving and critical thinking
- Emotional intelligence and empathy
- Leadership and motivation
- Professionalism and work ethic

Soft skills are valuable because they help individuals build strong relationships, work effectively in teams, and navigate complex work environments. They are often considered essential for career success and are highly valued by employers.

Calmbridge PTSD Outcomes Takeaway:
Calmbridge delivers measurable, functional improvements that align with modern PTSD outcome standards and commissioner expectations.

1. Why PTSD Outcomes Are Changing
PTSD recovery is no longer assessed solely through symptom‑reduction scores.

Modern outcome tools increasingly measure functional stability, emotional regulation, communication, and daily life confidence — the areas where people feel the impact of trauma most acutely.

Recent developments in PTSD assessment emphasise:

Functional outcomes — how well someone manages routines, relationships, and responsibilitiesEmotional regulation capacity — the ability to stay steady under stressLongitudinal progress — improvements sustained over weeks and monthsTrauma‑informed assessment — tools that are shorter, safer, and less triggering.

Digital‑first measurement — accessible, repeatable, real‑world data collectionThese shifts reflect a broader understanding: recovery is about life getting easier, not just symptoms getting lower.

6. Summary for Commissioners
Calmbridge delivers measurable improvements in emotional regulation, daily functioning, communication, and confidence — the exact domains modern PTSD outcome tools are designed to capture.

By providing structured micro‑learning between appointments, Calmbridge enhances recovery, reduces escalation, and supports the functional outcomes that commissioners prioritise.

“Mental health is in many ways the issue of our times.” – Andy Burnham, 2022

We couldn’t agree with him more.

We welcome the new Prime Minister and urge him to make mental health a priority.

This is what his Labour government must do to tackle “the issue of our times”:

1) Provide same-day open access to mental health:

Too many people are left waiting while their mental health gets worse. We are calling for same-day access to mental health support, so people can get help when they need it, not weeks or months later.

2) Make the online world and AI safer for mental health:

We want the UK government to work with us to build on the work we’ve started through our AI Commission, Mental Health in the Age of AI.

3) Listen carefully to mental health experts (like us!) and those with lived experience of mental health problems:

We’re ready to work with the new Prime Minister to make sure everyone can get safe, effective mental health support that's right for them, when they need it.
