Sunflower Harvest time! 🌻

The Pilton Community College Farm will be open this Friday 31 July and Monday 3 August, from 10:00am until 12noon to pick your own sunflowers.

🎉 Wishing Our School Community a Wonderful Summer! 🎉

As another fantastic school year comes to a close, we'd like to thank all of our students, families, staff and the wider community for your continued support throughout the year.

From academic successes and sporting achievements to performances, trips, enrichment activities and countless memorable moments, it has been a year full of opportunity, growth and achievement. We are incredibly proud of everything our students have accomplished and the way they continue to represent our school with kindness, resilience and ambition.

To all of our students, we hope you enjoy a well-deserved summer break. Spend time with family and friends, make wonderful memories, try something new, get outside and enjoy the sunshine—but most importantly, stay safe.

We look forward to welcoming all of our returning students back in the new academic year and extending a very warm welcome to our new Year 7s, who will soon become part of the Pilton family.

Pilton's Eco Club were successful in the PTFA bid for our own litter picking equipment. We put the equipment to good use on its first outing, by taking it to Croyde, where our Eco Club students worked with the Beach Ranger Team to clean the area of beach near Downend. 🌊🌊

A lot of seaweed has recently washed in at Croyde and mixed up in it is a lot of ocean plastic from the sea bed. Some of this plastic has been in the sea for years, as our students proved by finding smarties tube lids with lowercase letters on that were pre-2005. Our students collected a lot of plastic in the time we were there, but sadly it was only a tiny percentage of the plastic tangled up in the seaweed.

We then had some refreshments at the Downend cafe where our students made some environmentally friendly choices by opting for drinks in cans (which are infinitely recyclable) as opposed to plastic bottles (which can only be recycled 1-3 times before the plastic degrades too much). They also chose to buy ice cream in a cone rather than in a tub or in plastic wrapper to limit any unnecessary waste. 🍦

Following the break, we explored the rock pools at the south side of the beach. The low tide conditions meant we saw a diverse range of creatures in the rock pools including gem and strawberry anemones, some honeycomb worm reefs, a hard to find sea hare..... and a few cheeky year 7s!

Our exciting School Library Project is continuing to gather momentum, and we're thrilled with the progress being made!

Thanks to the incredible hard work and enthusiasm of our project team members and students—particularly our fantastic Year 10s—the space is gradually being transformed into the calm, welcoming and inspiring reading hub we've always dreamed of creating. A place where students can relax, discover new books, develop a love of reading and enjoy a safe, comfortable environment throughout the school day.

Here are a few sneak peeks of what's been happening so far... 👀📖

The work doesn't stop over the summer! During the holidays we'll be:
🔧 Completing electrical works
🪧 Installing new signage
📚 Continuing to catalogue our growing collection of books, ready for an exciting September opening.

We're also delighted that our new Year 7 students have been invited to take part in a Summer Reading Challenge, helping them begin their Pilton journey by discovering the joy of reading before they even arrive. We can't wait to see how many take part! (Details can be found here and on the Primary Transition page of the school website.)

We are incredibly proud of everything that has been achieved so far and are so excited to continue developing the space ready for the new academic year.

Food Bank Open This Wednesday

Just a post to say that our School Food Bank will be open at breaktime this Wednesday.

The Food Bank is available to any student or family who could benefit from a little extra support. There are no questions asked—simply come along and bring a bag to carry your items home.

As we approach the summer holidays, we'd really love to make sure as much food as possible reaches those who can use it. We still have plenty of rice, cereal and tinned food available, and we'd much rather see it in your cupboards than on our shelves.

Please don't hesitate to come along if it would help you or your family. Everyone is welcome. ❤️

Do you love to sing, act or perform? This is your chance to step into the spotlight!

We're excited to announce that auditions for our next school production of Bugsy Malone will take place on Tuesday 22nd September, from 3:20pm–5:00pm - and as it's the 50th anniversary of the film, we felt this was the perfect choice for Pilton's next school performance! Whether you're dreaming of a principal role, joining the lively ensemble, or performing as one of the unforgettable characters, we'd love to see you there!
