🗣️There is a vacancy for Parish Councillor🗣️

If you are interested in becoming a parish councillor, you have to be at least 18 years old, a British or Commonwealth citizen, citizen of Republic of Ireland or be a qualifying EU citizen. Also, you must fulfil at least one of these four criteria:

•You are registered to vote in the parish
•You have owned or tenanted land or premises in the parish for the past 12 months.
•Your main or only place of work for the past 12 months has been in the parish
•You have lived in the parish – or within 3 miles of it- for the last 12 months

📆 Deadline: 24th July 2026

If over 10 people have expressed an interest there will be an election to chose a representative councillor, or we will look to co-opt someone in the parish.

Join the Northam Burrows rangers for a summer of fun!

We've got family friendly events every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon throughout the school holidays. Activities run from 2pm to 4pm and children must be accompanied by an adult.

There will also be a fantastical fairy trail - the magical creatures of Northam Burrows are heading to the coast for their summer holidays... can you spot all of their camp sites and holiday homes?! Government announces four new unitary councils for Devon

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has announced its decision on Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) in Devon.

From 1 April 2028, Devon will be made up of four unitary councils.

Plymouth, Exeter and Torbay will expand to serve communities across their respective cities and areas, with a new council created for the Devon Coast and Countryside.

Councillor Ken James, Leader of Torridge District Council, said:

“The Government has today announced its decision on local government reorganisation in our area. This decision marks an important step in shaping how services will be delivered for communities across Devon from 2028.

“A number of proposals were developed and carefully considered as part of this process, reflecting the scale and importance of these changes for our communities.

“While the Government has chosen a different option to the one we supported, we respect the decision made and will work constructively on the next phase.

“Unitary councils have the potential to deliver more efficient and effective services. Over the coming months we will be working closely with our neighbouring councils across Devon to help shape the new arrangements and ensure the best possible outcomes for our residents.

“For now, Torridge District Council will continue to deliver services as normal while we work towards a smooth and well-managed transition to the new structure on 1 April 2028.

“We know residents, businesses and stakeholders will have questions, so we will be providing further updates as more information becomes available and as plans develop.”

The new Councils are expected to take powers from April 2028, with elections to a shadow authority expected to take place in May 2027.”
