Our Year 5 girls had a fantastic day at the William Morris Gallery, immersing themselves in the world of pattern and print design.

Inspired by William Morris' distinctive style, they designed their own repeating-pattern prints, carving wooden blocks with foam-cut shapes and experimenting with printing ink to create beautiful designs featuring leaves, birds, animals, and flowers.

We were especially proud of the girls' impeccable behaviour throughout the trip. They represented Lyonsdown brilliantly, showing curiosity, enthusiasm and respect both in the gallery and whilst travelling off-site.

It was a wonderfully creative day, and the girls returned to School inspired and excited about their own artistic creations.

School Council met in the sunshine during breaktime, with our Co-Heads leading the meeting. โ˜€๏ธ

The discussion focused on our fabulous new school menu, and the girls came prepared with some fantastic ideas! Suggestions included introducing fresh fruit in water, Wedges Wednesday, and Toastie Tuesday, all of which we'll take on board and consider.

One thing everyone agreed on was just how delicious our daily lunches are, with a special mention and a big thumbs up for the gnocchi! ๐Ÿ‘

Thank you to all our School Council representatives for sharing your ideas, and a special well done to our Co-Heads, who chaired the meeting brilliantly and demonstrated the Lyonsdown Values throughout.

While the Head, Mrs Hall, was away on an ISI inspection visit at another school, this weekโ€™s newsletter featured a very special guest editorial team!

As Mrs Hall was unavailable to write the newsletter, our wonderful Co-Head Girls stepped up to the challenge and took the reins, sharing their thoughts and highlights from school life. We were delighted to hand over the responsibility and see them embrace the opportunity with such confidence, maturity and enthusiasm.

A fantastic example of leadership in action, the girls did an excellent job keeping our school community updated and showcasing all that has been happening across Lyonsdown this past week.

Thank you, girls, for stepping in and doing such a brilliant job! ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’š World Mental Health Day ๐Ÿ’š

We asked our pupils and staff one simple question... What makes you happy?

From spending time with family and school friends to enjoying hobbies, pets, dancing, and teaching, their answers reminded us that happiness can come in many different forms.

At Lyonsdown, we know looking after our wellbeing matters, and taking time to reflect on what brings us joy is one way we can support positive mental health.

๐Ÿ’š Looking after our wellbeing matters every day.
Be Kind. Be Bold & Brave. Be the Best You Can Be.

โšกYear 4 put their science and engineering skills to the test as they designed and built their own steady hand games!

Using wires, circuits, and buzzers, the girls carefully built their games before taking on the challenge of guiding the loop from start to finish without touching the wire or setting off the buzzer.

Through hands-on investigation, they developed their understanding of electrical circuits while practising problem-solving, resilience and precision.

The Science Lab buzzed with excitement as the girls tested their creations and discovered just how steady their hands really were!

It was a delight to welcome families to our weekly Toddler Group, alongside our friends from in Barnet.

The older children enjoyed exploring our Early Years outdoor learning area, taking part in outdoor mark-making activities, and making the most of the wonderful space. Whilst the younger children happily explored a selection of toys and books.

These weekly sessions are a fantastic opportunity for local families to connect, make new friendships, and enjoy a relaxed morning with their little ones in a warm and welcoming environment.

We look forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming new families each week! ๐Ÿ’™

If you'd like to join one of our Friday morning sessions, please get in touch with [email protected] to reserve your place.

Our Harvest Festival celebration was a wonderful afternoon of singing, learning and giving.

Led by Mrs Roberts, Director of Music, and Miss Alderton, Deputy Head, the girls delighted us with their Harvest songs, with every year group taking to the stage and singing beautifully. Between performances, Miss Alderton shared all things Harvest, taking the girls on a journey from field to fork. They learnt how soil is prepared, how vegetables are grown and harvested, and even heard about Miss Alderton's visit to a farm in Shropshire. The girls were particularly excited to discover that the potato wedges they had enjoyed at lunch came from the very farm she visited!

They also learnt about the Harvest Moon and the important role harvest plays in our daily lives. Our Charity Prefects shared updates and announcements throughout the Assembly, and it was lovely to hear from some of the girls in Miss Alderton's Community Kindness Club as they spoke about what they are grateful for this Harvest season.

After the Assembly, Chipping Barnet Foodbank collected an amazing two carloads of food and essential items to support local families in need. A huge thank you to all of our families for their incredibly generous Harvest donations.

It was a heartwarming afternoon that perfectly reflected the kindness, generosity and community spirit that are such an important part of life at Lyonsdown. ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ’›
