Rydym yn falch iawn o ddathlu gwaith Aliana Kempson, ymgeisydd PhD mewn Athroniaeth a Chrefydd Prifysgol Bangor, a gyflwynodd ei hymchwil yn ddiweddar yng Ngholeg y Drindod, Dulyn.

Wrth fynychu’r gynhadledd dan arweiniad myfyrwyr a drefnwyd gan Gymdeithas Astudiaethau Celtaidd, cyflwynodd Aliana ei phapur, ‘Women in Conflict: Activism, Victimhood and Memory in “The Troubles”,’ mewn amgylchedd croesawgar ac ysgogol yn ddeallusol.

Darparodd y gynhadledd hefyd gyfle gwerthfawr i gysylltu ag ymchwilwyr eraill, cyfnewid syniadau, ac ymgysylltu ag ystod amrywiol o waith hynod ddiddorol ym maes Astudiaethau Celtaidd. Bydd y trafodaethau hyn a’r safbwyntiau newydd yn sicr o gyfoethogi ymchwil barhaus Aliana.

We are delighted to celebrate the work of Aliana Kempson, PhD candidate in Philosophy and Religion Bangor University, who recently presented her research at Trinity College Dublin.

Attending the student-led conference hosted by the Association of Celtic Studies, Aliana shared her paper, ‘Women in Conflict: Activism, Victimhood and Memory in “The Troubles”,’ in a welcoming and intellectually engaging environment.

The conference also offered a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow researchers, exchange ideas, and engage with a diverse range of fascinating work across Celtic Studies. These conversations and new perspectives will undoubtedly enrich Aliana’s ongoing research.

We warmly congratulate Aliana on this achievement and look forward to seeing how her work continues to develop.

Roedd Dr Joshua Andrews a Dr Gareth Evans-Jones yn falch iawn o gael cyflwyno eu hymchwil ddiweddaraf yng Nghynhadledd AULRE–AREIAC ym Mhrifysgol Birmingham, drwy ganolbwyntio ar natur statudol Crefydd, Gwerthoedd a Moeseg (CGM) yng Nghymru.

Mae hyn yn rhan o brosiect ymchwil gyffrous sy’n parhau, ac edrychwn ymlaen at rannu rhagor o allbynnau dros y misoedd nesaf.

Dr Joshua Andrews and Dr Gareth Evans-Jones were delighted to present their latest research at the AULRE–AREIAC Conference at Birmingham University, focusing on the mandatory nature of Religion, Values and Ethics (RVE) in Wales.

This is part of an exciting ongoing project, and we look forward to sharing more outputs in the coming months.

Yn ei bapur, cyflwynodd Hammad y tebygrwydd trawiadol ond cymharol anhysbys rhwng y traddodiad Shiaidd o gyfansoddi marsiaid a thraddodiad Cymraeg y farwnad. Drwy gymharu’r ddau gorff llenyddol, dygodd sylw at gysylltiadau diddorol rhwng cof, galar, cred a mynegiant barddonol ar draws diwylliannau gwahanol.

Mae hwn yn gyflawniad arbennig ac yn enghraifft wych o ymchwil arloesol sy’n pontio meysydd a thraddodiadau academaidd. Da iawn, Hammad!

Congratulations to Hammad Rind, who is in the first year of his PhD in Philosophy and Religion, on delivering a successful presentation at the Celtic Studies Student Conference in Dublin.

Hammad's paper explored the fascinating and often overlooked parallels between Shia marsiyas and Welsh-language elegiac poetry (marwnadau), highlighting rich connections between two distinct literary and cultural traditions. His research opened up exciting new perspectives on mourning, memory, faith, and poetic expression across cultures.

A fantastic achievement and an excellent example of innovative interdisciplinary research. Well done, Hammad!

I gyd-fynd â Mis Balchder, cyflwynidd Dr Gareth Evans-Jones bapur yn ddiweddar yn y Q***r Data Showcase yn Home Manceinion, mewn digwyddiad a oedd yn archwilio casglu, dehongli a lledaenu data cwiar o fewn cyd-destunau academaidd.

Yn ei bapur, 'The Politics of Being an Error', trafododd sut mae systemau data yn aml yn cael trafferth ymdrin ag amwysedd, gan dynnu ar waith meddylwyr megis Foucault, Sara Ahmed, Jack Halberstam a Heraclitus i archwilio ffenomenoleg gwiar a gwleidyddiaeth 'glitsio systemau'.

Daeth y digwyddiad ag ymchwilwyr, academyddion a lleisiau cymunedol ynghyd mewn gofod cynhwysol ar gyfer trafodaeth ysgogol ac i gyfnewid syniadau.

Yn ystod Mis Balchder a gweddill y flwyddyn, mae digwyddiadau fel hyn yn ein hatgoffa o werth ymchwil, gwelededd a deialog wrth adeiladu cymunedau mwy cynhwysol.

Coinciding with Pride Month, Dr Gareth Evans-Jones recently presented at the Q***r Data Showcase at Home Manchester, an event exploring the academic collection, interpretation and dissemination of q***r data.

The paper, 'The Politics of Being an Error', examined how data systems often struggle to accommodate ambiguity, drawing on the work of thinkers including Foucault, Sara Ahmed, Jack Halberstam, and Heraclitus to explore q***r phenomenology and the politics of 'glitching' the system.

The event brought together researchers, academics, and community voices in an inclusive space for discussion.

During Pride Month and beyond, events such as these remind us of the value of such scholarship, visibility, and dialogue in creating more inclusive communities.

Recently, Aliana Kempson, who is currently pursuing a PhD in Philosophy and Religion, attended a special reception at the Irish Embassy in London, hosted by the British Association for Irish Studies.

Aliana was awarded a bursary in support of her doctoral research, a wonderful recognition of her work and potential. The event also provided a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow award recipients and researchers, and to engage in conversations about the diverse and exciting work taking place across the field of Irish Studies.

Buont yn archwilio'r cwestiwn drwy amrywiaeth o safbwyntiau athronyddol a damcaniaethau moesegol, gan ystyried a yw'r cyfryngau cymdeithasol wedi newid, gwanhau neu'n syml amlygu'r gwerthoedd moesol sydd eisoes yn bodoli yn ein cymdeithas. 📚✨ Dr Gareth Evans-Jones had a fantastic day today at Coleg Cambria's Deeside Sixth Form College campus, where he delivered a taster session for A Level students considering studying Philosophy, Ethics and Religion at university.

Together, they tackled a big and challenging question: Has Social Media Broken Morality?

The discussion explored a range of philosophical perspectives and ethical frameworks, examining whether social media has transformed, weakened, or simply exposed existing moral behaviours. From Aristotle's Virtue Ethics and the cultivation of character, to Hannah Arendt's reflections on responsibility and the 'banality of evil', and the critiques of power, surveillance, and identity found in the work of Michel Foucault and Jean Baudrillard, students engaged thoughtfully with some of the most important thinkers in moral and social philosophy.

It was a pleasure to see such curiosity, insight, and willingness to grapple with complex questions. Thank you to everyone who took part in the discussion and asked such thoughtful questions.
