Stop telling your child not to be nervous. 🧡

Because nerves are not the problem.

When your child is about to perform, speak in class, or try something new, they might feel their heart racing, their hands going sweaty, their stomach flipping.

And that is okay.

Instead of “Don’t be nervous,” try this.

“Take a breath.”
“Plant your feet.”
“Look up.”
“Now focus on what you are there to do.”

Nerves are not a sign that something is wrong. They are a sign that something matters.

Anna Fisher Coaching I use this with children all the time in drama and LAMDA sessions. The ones who learn to work with their nerves rather than fight them grow into the most confident performers and communicators.

Confidence is not the absence of nerves. It is knowing what to do when they show up. ✨

Does your child mumble? Stop saying “Speak louder!” 🧡

Because here is the thing. Telling a child to speak louder rarely works. It makes them more self-conscious.

Try this instead.

Stand at the other side of the room and say:

“Can you make your voice reach me?”

Then gradually move further away and make it a game.

You are not asking them to shout. You are teaching them to project.

It is something I use all the time in drama and LAMDA sessions, and it works because it gives them a target rather than a criticism.

“Make your voice reach me” is something they can do. “Speak louder” is pressure. ✨

Does your child completely freeze when someone asks them a question? 🧡

That moment when an adult says something simple like “How was your day?” and they… go blank.

It is not shyness. It is not rudeness. They haven’t been taught that pausing is allowed.

Try this at home with a silly question first.

“If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?”

Then teach them this:

Stop.
Take a breath.
Think.
Then answer.

Make the pause feel normal. Practise it together until it stops feeling awkward.

Because confident communication isn’t about having an instant answer. It’s about knowing you’re allowed to take your time. ✨

Does your child know the answer but never put their hand up? 🙋

That moment when you can see they know it. But they stay quiet.

It is not always about confidence in the answer. Sometimes it is about confidence in their own voice.

Try this at home. Ask them a question at dinner and give them the floor.

“Would you rather have a dog or a cat, and why?”

Then let them talk. Don’t interrupt. Don’t finish their sentence. Give them all the time they need to find their words.

You are not testing them. You are giving them a safe place to practise having a voice.

Because speaking up is a skill. And like every skill, it gets stronger with practice. ✨

Tomorrow, a lot of children are walking into something new. 🎒

A new classroom. A new teacher. New people to figure out.

And one of the best things you can do tonight is not do everything for them.

Let them pack their own bag.
Let them set their own alarm.
Let them be in charge of something small.

Because confidence isn’t built in the big moments. It’s built in all the tiny ones that come before them.

Tomorrow morning, if they take a little longer to order their breakfast, or ask their own question, or say their own name to someone new, try this instead of jumping in.

“You’ve got this. I’ll wait.”

That pause you give them? That’s where the confidence lives. ✨

Is your child nervous about going somewhere new this September? 🧡

New classroom. New teacher. New faces.

For some children, that feels exciting. For others, it feels big.

If your child tends to worry before stepping into something unfamiliar, try giving them a little job instead of reassuring them everything will be fine.

“Your job today is to introduce yourself to one person.”
“Your job is to order your own drink.”

One small thing to focus on. Something they are in charge of.

Because confidence doesn’t always come before you do something. Sometimes it comes because you’ve done it. ✨

A little glimpse into my working week Anna Fisher Coaching 🎭

There’s something I still absolutely love about walking into a school with a day of drama ahead of me.

Different schools, different classes, different personalities… and always something unexpected!

I feel very lucky that I get to do something I genuinely love - and hopefully help young people feel a little more confident, comfortable and confident in using their voice along the way.

So here’s a very small collection of me walking into schools looking far too happy to be going to work 😂❤️

If you’re a parent, teacher or school looking for drama, LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) or confidence-building sessions, I’d love to hear from you.

📩 Drop me a message or get in touch to find out more about working with me.

“No pressure to ‘perform’…” ❤️

One of the loveliest things a parent has said about my sessions:

“Anna has a very natural way with children making them feel instantly at ease with no pressure to ‘perform’ - they see the sessions as fun…”

And honestly?

That’s exactly what I’m aiming for.

Because when children are having fun, they don’t always realise how much they’re learning.

✨ They’re communicating.
✨ They’re listening.
✨ They’re making decisions.
✨ They’re using their imagination.
✨ They’re experimenting with their voice and body.
They’re learning to express themselves.

And they’re building confidence along the way.

🎭 Drama first. Confidence follows.

Thank you to every parent who has trusted me with their children so far - and to those who have taken the time to share their experiences. ❤️

If you’re looking for drama, confidence-building or LAMDA coaching for your child, drop me a message.

What actually happens at an Anna Fisher Coaching session? 🎭

A LOT of this. 😂

We play, get silly, make things up, become characters, use our voices, move our bodies and have lots of fun!

But underneath all of that, we’re building confidence too.

Children are learning to have a go, make mistakes, express themselves and discover what they’re capable of.

I never want children to feel like they have to walk in and be “performers”.

You don’t have to be the loudest or the most confident.

You just have to have a go. ❤️

Because sometimes confidence doesn’t come before you try something…

…it comes because you tried it.

🎭 Drama should be FUN - and the skills grow from there.

Friday’s final summer workshop at Hornton Primary School definitely did not disappoint ✨

Our 7- 10 year olds spent the day diving into scripts, exploring characters, playing with voices, getting creative and, of course, having plenty of fun along the way. 🎭

One of my favourite things about these workshops with Anna Fisher Coaching is watching children start to realise what they’re capable of when they’re given the space to experiment, make choices and just go for it.

Because drama isn’t just about performing.

It’s about finding your voice, expressing yourself, trying something new and growing in confidence along the way. 💛

And what a lovely way to finish our summer workshops!

If your child is heading into a new school year and you’d love them to feel more confident expressing themselves, I’d love to help.
