On Sunday 18th of September, two of our members, Jim and Mikey, took part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk to raise funds for our production of The Wedding Singer! Jim completed the 21 mile Mighty Stride, and unfortunately Mikey pulled up 5 miles short of the 16 mile Big Stroll with an injury, but will make up the remaining 5 miles once fully recovered! The fundraising link will remain open until midnight on Wednesday 28th of September, and all funds are being generously topped up by 50% by Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation. Vocabulary is key to reading comprehension! I like to introduce new vocabulary by sneaking in new words during my read aloud each day. In addition to my explicit teaching, I wanted my students to take ownership of their new vocabulary words they wanted to learn. While reading, my students write down a word or words they want to know or understand better. They put them in our jar and then I pick a few to teach explicitly each day. This simple jar gives me so much insight to my students’ word knowledge and really benefits all students by being exposed to extra vocabulary words. My favorite words to hear during our read aloud: “That’s a great vocabulary word, we should add that to our collection!”

I am a fully qualified primary teacher who is passionate about children's learning. I have years of experience in supporting pupils to reach their full potential and have worked in schools both in South and East Ayrshire. I am fully PVG checked.

Going back to school can be an anxious time for families and now that your child is back at school I am providing 1-1 support for pupils (P1-P7) to help them be the best they can be, building confidence and catching up where they may feel they are struggling.

My fees are:
1 child for 1 hour = £25
2 children for 1 hour (shared session) = £40

What does a session include?
Initial assessment and planning of relevant fun sessions.
Continual assessment and individual feedback.
(all tailored to the individual pupil)

BBC BItesize timetable Week 2. Have a look and see what suits your family. It is ok to use tv to teach. I don't believe familes will survive this if the expectations are just to sit at a table and do formal education. It is not how we teach in school. We would be using many different formats of lessons. Sharing ideas among their peers and using many many different types of media. So let them bake, draw (Little Art School - have many videos on line), do experiments, childrens fitness or dance videos and educational programmes.

If your internet cannot cope with you all on line at the same time, especially if you are working from home, school doesn't need to be within the hours of 9-3, they certainly shouldn't be working all those hours. Do you need to work in those hours?
let them outside and play in nature, go for a walk, play in the puddles and mud.

But most of all be kind to yourself and each other, if it isn't working a day, put it all away and have a family day, if you can.

Mental health is most important, we can catch up on learning.

We are loving learning and sharing together. Each child is an individual and as such a plan is created to each child's needs.
