🦡🦊🦦 Badgers, Foxes and Otters have been busy learning about subtraction with exchanges!

Using manipulatives helped us see how exchanging works, strengthening our understanding of place value and building confidence with column subtraction. We even got to write our calculations on the tables—it was great fun! ✏️🙌

This supports our Year 3 and 4 curriculum, developing subtraction skills with numbers up to three digits in Year 3 and four digits in Year 4. 🌟

🍂🌿 What a lovely start to the week at Little Acorns! 🌿🍂

This week, our Little Acorns have been busy exploring their creativity, families and number skills! 💚

🎨 Creative People! The children have been using a variety of creative resources to make people, whether it’s themselves or someone special they know. It’s been wonderful to see their imaginations shine through and all the different ideas they’ve come up with! 🖍️✨

🏡 All About Our Families! We’ve also been exploring who lives in our homes, using stones and wooden people to represent the number of people in each family. The children have loved choosing and counting their little figures to represent their own families. ❤️

🚂 Maths Fun! Our counting train has been a big hit this week! The children have been busy matching the correct number of blocks to each carriage, developing their counting skills in a fun and hands-on way. Fantastic work, Little Acorns! 🔢👏

🍁 Looking Ahead… We’ll be heading out on a nature walk to collect autumn treasures such as colourful leaves, sticks and pinecones. We’ll then use our natural finds to create our very own autumn people! 🍂🌰

What a wonderful start to the week, full of creativity, curiosity, learning and fun! We can’t wait to see what else our Little Acorns get up to! 🥰🌿

In Robins this week, we have been focusing on developing our fine motor skills, strengthening our little writers’ hands and getting them ready for the exciting start of Drawing Club after half term!

We have also had lots of dinosaur adventures for our many dinosaur lovers! The children have been using their imaginations to create stories with their classmates, developing their communication and language skills, sharing ideas and learning from one another.

Of course, we managed to squeeze in some maths for good measure too!

It has been a wonderful week of learning through play, with lots of creativity, teamwork and happy little learners!

🌾 Our Harvest Festival 🌾
Today, our whole school came together at Axminster Church to celebrate Harvest and give thanks.
A huge thank you to all the parents who walked with us and stayed to share in the celebration, and an extra-special thank you for all the generous food donations. These will go to our local food bank to support people in our community.
We enjoyed singing harvest songs and listening to poems by Y6 and Y2.
We are so grateful for your kindness and support!

🦡🦦🦊 Badger, Otters and Foxes classes have been exploring the features of non-chronological reports!

We’ve been practising writing paragraphs, using coordinating conjunctions to join our ideas and adding subheadings to organise information clearly. These skills will help us turn our animal facts into informative reports. ✏️📚

Well done, everyone, for your hard work!

📚✨ A One-in-a-Lifetime Reading Opportunity! ✨📚

Last week on Friday, our Year 5 and 6 pupils were given a very special choice: would they be willing to miss part of their Enrichment block for the chance to meet a real author?

The answer? 27 of our pupils said YES! 🙌📖

They joined a special Zoom session with author Becca Rogers, author of Scamp Saltbrace and the Tidal Clock and The Girl with Gills, as part of a wider regional reading community bringing together children from across the South West.

During the session, Becca gave our pupils an insight into what life as an author is really like, shared the inspiration behind her books, read extracts from her stories and answered questions from children and staff. ✍️💭

Our pupils had the opportunity to discover what happens behind the pages — from where ideas come from to how stories make their way from an author's imagination into a published book.

We were particularly proud to see so many children choose to give up something they enjoy in order to take part. 27 children choosing reading, curiosity and the chance to meet an author in person (virtually!) says a lot about the enthusiasm of our Year 5 and 6 readers. 🌟

Author visits like this can inspire creativity, encourage children to see themselves as writers and readers, and create memories that stay with them for years to come.

A huge thank you to Becca Rogers for taking the time to speak with our pupils and inspire the next generation of readers and storytellers. ❤️📚

Who knows… perhaps one of our Year 5 or 6 pupils will be the author joining a Zoom call with children one day! ✨
