**Looking forward to another varied and rewarding week ahead.**

This week I get to deliver Moving and Handling initial training to a new cohort of clinicians within a community NHS hospital, alongside Days 4 & 5 of a Moving and Handling Train the Trainer programme for a national supported living organisation.

I love the variety that comes with working across healthcare and social care settings, adapting training to different audiences and helping build the confidence, competence and skills that make a real difference in practice.

A very wise woman once said that training in isolation doesn’t work (P Rose, 2011). She taught me early in my career that meaningful Moving & Handling practice only thrives when you support the bigger picture — supervisions, systems, documentation, leadership, and the culture of the service.

That principle guided my recent return to a service in December, after several years away, when I was asked to “assist” with their Moving & Handling provision. What followed was a full‑scale improvement programme across multiple sites.

- Full Moving & Handling audit of the entire service to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities
- Retraining of all resident‑facing staff, including team leaders
- Delivery of my Appointed Persons Certificate to build confident, competent oversight within the team
- Implementation of safer systems and practical, defensible documentation
- Strengthening person‑centred practice and improving staff morale through clarity, consistency, and supportive supervision
- Embedding workable, sustainable processes that align with evidence‑based practice
- Purchasing resident specific equipment and introducting my famous 'just in case' bag

It’s been an intense few months — high‑energy, multi‑site, and deeply rewarding — supporting a service to rebuild confidence, competence, and culture around safe, person‑centred Moving & Handling.
