Misdiagnosis of foot melanoma in patients is a frequently reported issue.

Myself and colleagues have recently published a paper proposing a new acronym to promote awareness of melanoma masquerading as foot ulceration.

Please take time to read the blog (which also contains a link to the free published paper in the Journal of Foot and Ankle Research) on my website here:

And remember, be suspicious of any non healing wound. Although rare, melanoma of the foot can masquerade as many other conditions. Recognition of suspicious features, such as unusual characteristics of the lesion, longevity despite treatment, and lack of the typical features associated with diabetic foot disease, such as ischaemia and neuropathy, should prompt the clinician to undertake a biopsy to rule out malignancy, including as melanoma.

If you know anything about Podiatry the names of these four may be very familiar even if you don't recognise their faces!

Between us we have 169 years of professional service (and rising), and have collectively published over 685 papers!

We have delivered presentations at over 700 conferences worldwide. Sounds exhausting!

So can you name my three good friends and colleagues in this photo?

The World Congress in Dermoscopy

Lyon is the setting for the International Dermoscopy Society 2027 World Congress in Dermoscopy.

The event is all about getting more healthcare professionals to pick up a dermatoscope as an aid to diagnosis.

What's happening at the event? I speak to Professor Luc Thomas to find out.
