Kennington CE Academy

Today we are marking World Music Day with a day of performing, listening, learning and celebration.

Pupils across the school are finding out about musical styles from around the world, learning about rhythm, melody and cultural context. Class performances are showcasing new skills developed in music lessons and our teachers are using activities to link music with history and geography, helping pupils understand how music connects communities across the globe.

We are always so proud of the curiosity and confidence shown by our pupils on our theme days.

Year 4 have had a great day out at Wildwood today. They got to go on a habitat walk and see the different British species in their native habitats, climb on the rope bridge over the bear enclosure, saw many different animals on their self-guided trails, and in the end, met Bald the Saxon who let them use a shield, light some flint and steel, and hosted a Saxon burial

Coming soon to Kennington CE Academy - our new Community Cupboard! Any donations to get us up and running will be very gratefully received. We will let the community know when we are stocked and open.

It is inter-house competition time again! This Friday will be archery. Please can all children come to school in PE kits. Thank you

Come along to our OPAL Stay and Play session for parents and carers is this Wednesday. Everything from scooters, to mud kitchens to den building...be prepared to get involved!

We wish all of our amazing Year 6's good luck with their SATs this week. We know they'll all do their best, try their hardest and do themselves proud. Remember; try your hardest, do your best, you have skills you cannot test!

A big thank you to everyone who managed to attend our art exhibition yesterday – it was wonderful to see so many families celebrating the children's fantastic artwork.

What a busy week! Dance workshops, football matches an author visit, an excellent Family Worship and lots of brilliant learning! Our allotment and Forest School are full of life too!

We were very fortunate today to have the author, August Moon, visit us to talk about his children’s books all about the Malaysian squirrel, Shaari. Not only are we lucky to be the first English school he has visited, but he is also the grandparent of one of our Year 5 pupils! We loved hearing how knowledgeable he is about pressing issues regarding wildlife in South East Asia, his passion for literature and the glorious travels that have inspired these stories. It was also touching to hear that his name was inspired by his granddaughter, and the wonderful memories they share together. We hope that his talk has inspired our pupils to consider how their own imaginary friends could become story characters, as well as teaching them about animal welfare around the world.
