If you get into the wrong lane, what should you do?

Should you continue to where the lane takes you, or just change lanes?
Are you allowed to change lanes?
If you decide to change lanes, would it be the safest option? Would it be legal?

On the approach to the roundabout you can see the Column sign;
Left Lane (M20 London)
Middle Lane (A20)
Right Lane (M20 Dover)

Also each lane is clearly marked

Theres no such thing as a perfect driver, and no one can know every road in the country. You will undoubtedly go somewhere that you are unfamiliar with. This is where experience can play a big part in your driving ability and dealing with mistakes calmly and correctly.

Many pupils really do worry about the "dreaded" Theory Test.
Some tell us, that all they do is mock, after mock, after mock, after mock..
What they dont realise, is it the same minimal questions that are reworded on the apps.

Realistically, would you want to wing it and hope you pass? Or would it be safer to read and study the Highway Code? Its best to face the Theory Test with the knowledge and confidence that will most certainly increase your chances of success and hopefully, help you be better and safer when you do get onto the roads.

There are several Theory apps put there, and they are all fairly similar. The app that seems to be most popular (even more than DVSAs App) and has more subscribers is the 4 in 1 (link below)

Some pupils have additional challenges, such as dyslexia. But did know you can request additional help from DVSA? Although its not guaranteed they will oblige with that option.

There are other options aswell.
Theory Test Explained (Chris Bensted) is well known in the industry for his knowledge and helping others tackle, how they approach and understand the Theory Test.

📸 A GREAT WEEKEND AT THE INTELLIGENT INSTRUCTOR NATIONAL CONFERENCE & EXPO 2026! 🚗

We had a brilliant weekend at the Intelligent Instructor National Conference & Expo 2026.

It was great to meet so many fantastic people from across the driving industry, catch up with familiar faces and hear some new and exciting ideas along the way. 🙌

We 100% understand the frustrations that people have with getting driving tests, and more so to get a test local to where you live.

However, please also look at it from our side:
We have regular, loyal pupils who work extremely hard to reach the standards required, for us to be agree to take them to their driving test.
We simply cannot and will not drop them to accommodate someone who "believes" they are ready.

Our vehicles are our tools. If the vehicle doesn't work or isnt fit for the roads, we simply cannot work. Some people contact us to "hire" our vehicles to them for their test. But what happens IF we let them use our car, and they have an incident that takes the car of for several weeks? Will they pay for any loss of earnings? Will they pay for any excess?.. Probably they will just say "sorry mate" and wave as they go off into the sunset, never to be seen again!

Its not just our vehicles, its also goes against any ethics or morals & can most certainly affect our reputation as a business.

Today at 13:22 we received a call from someone wanting us to take them on their test at.... 13:35!!

Another driving test wasted, where someone who is ready could have had instead.

When you turn left at a junction, try to follow the kerb with the vehicle. This will help with positioning, so that when the road is clear, you can gently press the gas (accelerator) and the car should go exactly where you want it to (with minimal steering adjustment). You are giving the car 1 job to do, so you should be able to safely pull away and make progress before other vehicles get to you whilst in complete control.
If you position without following the kerb, this can create 2 problems
1) other road users may think you are going straight ahead or turning right.
2) When you pull out, you may end up steering so quickly, with minimal gas creating a potential problem for vehicles approaching you or you could use too much gas and oversteer and lose control.

In this clip, you can see the line of travel that the car is taking, then the inside view of steering and driver actions, before you will see the outside view again.
Also Notice the road signs and observe what the driver does.

🎉 INDIA HAS PASSED! 🚗💨

Back in February, Jenny started teaching India — when our Friday afternoon lessons were a lot more “where’s my coat?” than “how hot is it today?” 😂

Fast forward through a few heatwaves ☀️🥵 and India has now PASSED her driving test! 👏

India has been such a lovely learner to teach.
She’s super nice, super chilled and has been a fantastic person to have behind the wheel.
But she hasn’t just cruised through it — she has worked so hard to get to this point. All that practice and hard work has definitely paid off today. 💪

From cold February afternoons to some seriously hot Friday lessons, it’s been quite a journey!

Well done India — thoroughly deserved! 🥳🚗

Yellow Box Junctions

What are they and what is their purpose?

A Yellow Box Junction is a box with hatched criss-cross painted on the road surface usually at Junctions with or without traffic lights. They can also be painted on roundabouts.

Under Highway Code Rule 174, you must not enter a yellow box junction unless your exit road or lane is completely clear.

Clear Exit: You cannot enter the box unless there is enough space on the other side for your vehicle to clear the markings entirely without stopping.

Purpose: The criss-cross yellow lines prevent traffic gridlock at busy intersections and keep emergency routes clear.
The Right-Turn Exception
You may enter the box and wait if you want to turn right.
You can only stop in the box if oncoming traffic—or other vehicles also waiting to turn right—prevents you from completing the turn.

Signalled Roundabouts: At roundabouts controlled by traffic signals, you must not enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping.

Enforcement: Yellow Box Junctions are normally monitored by automated CCTV cameras, and a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) may be mailed to the registered keeper's address. You shouldn't receive penalty points, unless you have caused a collision.

At the end of the video, you may notice a different offence that has taken place. That offence could carry 3 Penalty Points (TS10) and a £100 fine...
