The newly-elected Deputy Mayor of Worthing joined us (Cllr. Henna Chowdhury) as well as friends from Once Upon Again (local children’s bookshop) who donated a box of books for the children to choose from.

SO many adults were SEEN reading by the children...being wonderful role models as well as having some lovely reading time!

We hope to make it an annual event...and include picnics next time.

Next Wednesday 20th May, Children Reading for Life®️ is bringing BeSeenReading®️ Day to Victoria Park from 3.00–4.00pm
Supported by Heene CE Primary School, St Mary’s RC Primary School and Worthing High School, this community event is all about encouraging children to see reading as something enjoyable, social and part of everyday life
Reading ambassadors from Worthing High School will be joining pupils and families in the park to help champion reading for pleasure across the community.
Created by Children Reading for Life founder Polly Atkinson, encourages everyone from schools, cafés, sports clubs, businesses, parents and local residents to simply be seen reading whether that’s a book, comic, newspaper or magazine.

The event also supports the Government’s recent National Year of Reading “GO ALL IN” campaign urging parents to read more with children, something Children Reading for Life has championed since day one

We absolutely loved our time at Worthing Football Club at the weekend.
It was such a joy handing out books to young supporters to take home and enjoy and the warm welcome we received made it even more special. The positive feedback around encouraging children to read was incredible and shows just how powerful these moments can be.
With the latest UK Government announcement urging parents to read more with their children to boost life chances, it’s never felt more important and it’s exactly what Children Reading for Life has always stood for.
A huge thank you to the team, players and everyone at Worthing FC for helping make this happen, together we’re making reading visible, accessible and exciting for the next generation.
