A mum sent me this question asking if there was a quick or easy way to approach it and I helped but thought I’d share too.

I felt this question was particularly tricky as the scale seemed very odd (the tiny looking nib on the bottom right is actually 225cm 🧐) but also the use of m and cm in the units.

Anyway..don’t let any of that distract you and just know the rules for the perimeter of an irregular shape
👉 the verticals and horizontals on both sides will equal.

So:
- the two yellows will equal the green
- the two reds will equal the blue

This also works if there are even more edges.

Taking the big numbers, that way we can quickly say
- 375cm (3.75m) x 2 = 750cm
- 350cm x 2 = 700cm
ADDED TOGETHER
750cm + 700cm = 1450cm / 14.5m (D)

In case you missed this…a great guide of what’s in and out of each test, broken down by topic. 👏

This is really useful and also highlights the challenge of trying to isolate topics as well as prepare for both tests, as something may be tested in one but not the other e.g. mean which will be tested in GL but not AQE. However, this is a great list and a nice, quick reference point for parents.

🍎 Where there’s a blank (neither yes or no), the testing body have not explicitly mentioned the topic so it can neither be ruled in or ruled out, so I would assume a Yes just to be safe.
