I used Zoom to help a client with a fairly ordinary bit of remote computer support.

Unfortunately, Zoom’s AI meeting summary also listened to the television in the background and decided we had held a high-level summit on national politics, sewage, prison reform, inflation and bus fares.

Apparently, this was our meeting:

The IT support person helped the client with remote computer support, guiding them through email links, Zoom access and account recovery.

They also discussed legal action against water company executives, changes to bus fare caps and possible government budget decisions.

They agreed that an in-person visit would be the easiest way to finish resolving the technical problems.

Email Link Meeting Instructions

The IT support person guided the client through clicking a link in an email and joining the Zoom meeting.

During the instructions, the IT support person briefly mentioned needing to attend to a burning fish pie.

Technical Process Guidance Session

The IT support person guided the client through responding to a green pop-up on the screen.

There appeared to be some difficulty with mouse control, which might require a kick-start.

Manslaughter Licence Implementation Discussion

The client and the IT support person discussed mandatory licences for people convicted of manslaughter, prison capacity and decisions that apparently needed to be made by Andy Burnham.

No clear decisions or action points were established.

Sewage Discharge Investigation Discussion

The client and the IT support person discussed sewage discharges, alleged fraud by water companies and attempts to conceal the scale of the problem.

The IT support person then asked for a PIN number.

The discussion also touched on the Prime Minister’s position on personal tax allowances.

UK Bus Fare Cap Reduction

The client discussed government plans to reduce the bus fare cap, along with spending on electricity, defence and social care.

Inflation Discussion

The client discussed inflation, oil prices and the Bank of England’s target.

The meeting then returned briefly to the computer problem before ending because of technical difficulties.

So there you have it.

I thought I was helping someone recover an online account.

Zoom AI thought I was chairing the Cabinet while rescuing a fish pie.

And that bloody Andy Burnham fellow nosey northerner gets everywhere.

Its late and I have self declared a Homage to Star Trek day... I have a lot to thank this series for but here are a few firsts that changed the way that we move today ....

🖖 The Original Series (1966–69)

1.⁠ ⁠“The City on the Edge of Forever” (S1E28)
→ Theme: Sacrifice, moral duty vs. love
Kirk must let the woman he loves die to preserve the timeline — a gut-punch of an ending that forced audiences to confront utilitarian ethics and personal cost.

2.⁠ ⁠“Let That Be Your Last Battlefield” (S3E15)
→ Theme: Racism and hate
Two aliens, half black and half white — but on opposite sides — destroy each other out of hatred. A blunt but powerful mirror to racism in the 1960s (and still hauntingly relevant).

3.⁠ ⁠“Balance of Terror” (S1E14)
→ Theme: The humanity of the enemy
Introduced the Romulans and portrayed both sides of a space battle with empathy. It reframed “the enemy” not as evil, but as equally honourable beings.

4.⁠ ⁠“The Menagerie” (S1E11–12)
→ Theme: Disability, consent, and illusion
The first major two-parter; questioned what defines quality of life, long before modern disability ethics were common cultural debates.

→ Theme: AI rights, personhood
A courtroom battle over whether Data (an android) owns himself. Still quoted in discussions about AI ethics today. Arguably predicted current AI debates.

Two species can’t understand each other’s language — until Picard realises they speak through metaphor. It’s taught in linguistics and communication courses worldwide.

Picard lives an entire lifetime in 25 minutes of screen time. It reframed ideas of what it means to live a “full” life and remains one of sci-fi’s most moving meditations on memory.

→ Theme: Torture and moral resilience
Picard’s capture and torture scene (“There are four lights!”) became shorthand for discussions about coercion, truth, and the limits of human will.

The crew watches a planet’s entire civilisation evolve in real time — a poetic exploration of time, progress, and the observer effect.

→ Theme: Gender identity and cultural interference
An alien species has a third gender, which the humans misunderstand — with devastating results. It predated mainstream gender identity debates by nearly two decades.

→ Theme: Science vs. faith
Explores coexistence between belief systems and scientific truth without vilifying either — an evolved take on an old Trek question.

→ Theme: Legacy, regret, and the ethics of creation
Picard’s disillusionment mirrors our own society’s moral fatigue — confronting what happens when idealism falters in an age of synthetic life and political apathy.

First in*******al kiss – “Plato’s Stepchildren” (TOS) – Kirk & Uhura (1968). A television landmark.

First openly gay relationship in main canon – Discovery’s Stamets & Culber.

They beat me to it 🤣🥳💪 I’m delighted to announce the launch of another Tech Fairy website project — this time for Little Chalfont Area Dementia Support (LCADS).

LCADS is a local charity doing incredible work to support people living with dementia and their carers. They run two Memory Cafés — Café 22 in Little Chalfont and Café 23 in Amersham — which provide safe, welcoming spaces for conversation, activities, and community connection.

The new website was built with accessibility at its heart:
