What is the difference between the GL consortium exam and the Trafford Catholic exam?
Hopefully this video clears up some common misunderstandings about the differences between the two main exams that children sit in Trafford.

🧠 Think Fast Thursday 🧠
This week’s question is all about words with more than one meaning.
The word evening can mean the time of day, but it can also mean making something level or equal.
These types of questions are great for building vocabulary, flexible thinking and verbal reasoning skills - all really useful for 11+ preparation.
Did you get it right? 👀
TOP TIP TUESDAY: Open Days
Open evenings are a great opportunity to look beyond the prospectus.
Of course results matter, but so does the atmosphere of the school.
When you visit, pay attention to the pupils, the staff, the support systems and how your child feels while they are there.
The “best” school is not always the same for every child.
Look for the school where your child can feel happy, supported and challenged.
Want to give your child a head start before Year 5?
My advice is simple:
📚 Read every day.
➗ Practise times tables regularly.
These two habits alone will support comprehension, vocabulary, reasoning, fractions, decimals and overall confidence in the classroom.
Strong foundations first. Everything else builds from there.
🎥 THINK FAST THURSDAY - EXPLANATION 🎥
Acronyms and abbreviations are really tricky to remember so hopefully this helps to explain what they are and how they’re different.

🧠 Think Fast Thursday 🧠
Here’s today’s challenge!
RSPCA is made up of the first letters of each word - but what is that called?! 👀
A little grammar/vocabulary knowledge can go a long way, especially when children are preparing for comprehension questions for the eleven plus exam.
Answer revealed later today!

Vocabulary is one of the biggest hidden skills in 11+ preparation.
It supports comprehension, verbal reasoning and all general English but it doesn’t always need to be built through worksheets.
Small everyday conversations can make a big difference.
Try asking:
“What does that word mean?”
“Can you use it in a sentence?”
“Can you think of a synonym?”
One new word a day is a great place to start and as always reading is the best way 📚
What if your child is lacking confidence at this stage of the 11+ journey?
It’s completely normal for children to experience a range of emotions in the lead-up to the 11+ exam. Nerves, self-doubt and uncertainty are all part of the process.
The most important message they can hear is this: ‘all they can do is try their best.’
As parents and educators, our role is to support and encourage children, not to measure them against someone else’s expectations. Success looks different for every child, and their effort, resilience and progress matter just as much as the final result.
If you’d like advice on building your child’s confidence ahead of the 11+, feel free to send us a message - we’re always happy to help.
🎥 THINK FAST THURSDAY - EXPLANATION 🎥
I teach double-digit multiplication in quite an unusual way using the turtlehead method🐢. The children I teach love this method and I have found it to be the most effective way of getting children to remember all the steps!
Hopefully this video helps and also gives you a slight twist on standard double-digit multiplication!
