Big smiles and brilliant spelling!
Whiteboards are one of our favourite tools for building confidence—mistakes are easily wiped away, making room for great learning.
While we love the dynamic energy and collaboration of our small groups, a targeted 1:1 session is sometimes the perfect way to zoom in on specific spelling goals and build those foundational skills.

Year 3 are back and ready to learn!
A warm welcome back to school from Ruth and Angela. We’ve hit the ground running at St Vincent’s last week, building some incredibly strong foundations for the term ahead.
Our primary focus is Maths, specifically data and statistics. The classroom has been buzzing this week as the children have been busy drawing and interpreting their own pictograms to represent data. 📈
We are so proud of their hard work and enthusiasm already. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic term ahead! 🌟
Group settings are such a popular option for many students and their families. There is something about this setting that really raises everyone’s game. The atmosphere screams focus, we are here to learn. Within these focused sessions students will work independently, as a group and receive 121 tuition through individual planning, task setting, direction, feedback and support in exactly the same way they would in a 121 with the added benefit of the group atmosphere which really raises the intention and motivation.
If you’re not sure, come and find out for yourself before deciding for certain.

This has been such a wonderful process for our children working towards expected writing outcomes.
Using a challenging text, pupils have been carefully unpicking the language, gathering ideas, drafting, editing and then producing a final piece step by step.
It is a lovely reminder that strong writing does not just happen in one go. It grows through discussion, modelling, rehearsal, revision and confidence-building.
So proud of the progress and care shown in this work.
Week 1 of our brand-new text, Kensuke’s Kingdom, and our incredible Year 5 writers at Willows Primary have absolutely hit the ground running!
This week, the group dived deep into the text to:
Up-level their descriptive vocabulary
Unpick the imagery
Spot advanced literary devices like metaphors, personification, and even juxtaposition!
We are so impressed by their high-level thinking and analytical skills. This group is going to write some truly stunning pieces over the coming weeks!

Hard at it, responding in detail to questions on Carol Ann Duffy’s atmospheric “In Mrs Tilsher’s Class” after lots of class discussion and exploration in tonight’s English session.
Huge congratulations to all our brilliant students who tackled our June 11+ mock exam this weekend! The dedication in the room was wonderful to see, and every single student showed incredible focus and determination.
Days like this are so much more than just a practice test—they are vital stepping stones for building resilience, confidence, and a positive mindset for the path ahead. We couldn’t be prouder of their fantastic work ethic and ongoing progress.
A superb first week back at St Vincent’s this term and it was lovely to welcome some new students to our cohort.
Our Year 5 children have worked so hard this week in developing their reading comprehension skills using our text tracking method.
The children worked so well today that I couldn’t choose just one Star of the Week, so I’ve awarded two. Well done to both of our stars and to everyone for such a positive start to our final half term.
Well done, Year 5. I’m looking forward to a fantastic half term ahead.

Our work with local schools, colleagues and the partnerships we form with them is such a privilege to us all at LNW.
This term it has been a real pleasure working once again alongside Urmston Grammar School. Thank you to all the staff who always make this such a rewarding part of our week.

People often ask me why I continue examining, especially when the reality is that it can be quite demanding.
The truth is that examining isn’t particularly well paid for the amount of time involved. The deadlines can be tight, the workload can be intense during marking periods, and there are times when support can feel limited. It’s certainly not something I do for the money or because it’s easy.
However, despite the challenges, I genuinely believe it makes me a better teacher.
As an examiner, I get a unique insight into how students respond to questions across a huge range of schools and contexts. I see the misconceptions that repeatedly catch students out, the mistakes that cost marks, and the strategies that help students access higher grades. That perspective is incredibly valuable because it helps me identify potential barriers before my own students encounter them.
Examining has also given me a much deeper understanding of mark schemes and assessment objectives. Rather than simply reading examiner reports or specification guidance, I see first-hand how marks are awarded and how different responses are interpreted against the criteria. This helps me prepare students more effectively and design lessons that focus on what really matters.
One of the most interesting aspects is seeing the variety of ways students approach the same question. It is a constant reminder that there is rarely only one route to success and that good teaching should allow for different ways of thinking.
Ultimately, while examining can be tough, the professional development it provides is invaluable. Every marking season teaches me something new, and I bring those lessons straight back into my classroom. For me, that’s what makes it worthwhile.
