DID YOU KNOW that the creators of Lambe Lambe were two black Brazilian women? Guess what else, Denise di Santos is still around! She and Ismine Lima invented this extremely innovative and currently very popular puppet form in 1989 in Northeast Brazil. Lambe Lambe is an intimate experience, where 1 puppeteer performs a secret show for 1 audience member, usually inside a large box that has an opening that only one person can look into at once. It usually lasts only a minute or two and performers can be seen busking on the street using this style in every major city of the world. I think it is a shame that while everyone knows Lambe Lambe, no one seems to know Denise and Ismine invented it.

We have some very sad news. Ismine Lima, one of the creators of Teatro Lambe Lambe has sadly passed away .

The world of puppetry has lost a brilliant star and we will all miss her greatly.
Her art will live on in our hearts and in our Teatro Lambe Lambe shows.

Our thoughts are with her family at this time.
