Whatever you think of your feet, they are incredible pieces of natural engineering which allow us to stand upright, walk and balance.
During pregnancy our bodyโs weight and centre of gravity gradually changes as our babies grow and this has an impact on the curves of our spine and on our feet! By loving our feet with warmth, exercise and massage we can support our whole body as it adapts to pregnancy and beyond.
One of my favourite feet facts comes from a book called The Female Brain by Louann Brizendine. In this book the author explains how hormones affect us over the course of our lives but specifically she explains how it is simply not possible to have an or**sm with cold feet โ good to know!
Of course babies get out the same way they got in so keeping those toes warm as you prepare for birth is also important and you can do that with regular warm foot soaks, cosy socks and avoiding going barefoot on cold floors for extended periods of time.
For more foot love inspiration please do check out my blog 'Love Your Feet' which I've just reposted on the website:

Yikes!
It's been a long time since I posted here and I have lots to update you on.
๐ธ As we emerge from the covid era I'm focusing much more on my in person therapeutic work at .northumberland where I offer yoga 1:1, massage therapy and retreats.
๐ธ I am still offering some group yoga classes on Zoom and at Shilbottle Community Hall but sadly there just isn't the time to keep pregnancy and postpartum classes on the timetable in a weekly format.
๐ธ Instead I'm focusing more on supporting women one on one with pregnancy yoga, relaxation, meditation and massage therapy. I have been doing this work since 2004 (18 years!) so feel very confident in supporting those of you with higher risk pregnancies, pregnancy after loss, postpartum complications and those who just appreciate a bit more personal attention.
๐ธ I will also continue to offer a small group workshop once a month on Sundays for pregnant women to meet each other and to access a little of the special, peaceful vibe we create over at .northumberland.
๐ธ We have beautiful accommodation available for these workshops so women from further afield are very welcome to attend and make a weekend retreat of it.
๐ธ For those who attend pregnancy yoga workshops there will be postpartum 'bring your baby' sessions as well. These will focus on the first 3-6 months postpartum and include lots of incredible resting, breathing and nurturing self care practices.
The photos are from the archives and depict my eldest child having his first taste of freshly picked blackberries. Now an early teen this child can make his own crumble and eat it very tidily with a spoon, but I often feel a pang of nostalgia for these purple-faced days.
I suspect many of you following this account may be in the thick of those messy mealtimes and have slightly outgrown the pregnancy/postpartum content I'll be posting here so please do follow .northumberland.
You may well want to escape to somewhere clean and quiet sometime!

Wednesday workshops for mothers and babies at .
The yoga practices in these workshops will help you to:
๐ธ establish good postural habits for yourself
๐ธ use conscious breathing for soothing yourself and your baby
๐ธ find ways to rest with your baby and cope with disrupted sleep
๐ธ connect with your baby through music and massage
๐ธ support your baby's devlopment with yoga and sensory games
๐ธ get back into exercise safely and gently

Believe me, I'm the last person who would try to argue that the immediate postpartum is not a tough time.
But what if it could also be a time to get to know yourself a whole lot better?
Why not embrace the first few weeks and months with your baby as a time to really slow down and reflect on who YOU really are as well as who THEY really are?
Could it be that the postpartum is actually a teeny bit magical?
Postpartum yoga is not just a bunch of exercises, it's a chance to move, rest and play in magical ways that help you get to know your baby better and get to know yourself better. Wednesday workshops combine gentle postpartum recovery exercise for new mums with songs, massages and movements for the babies.
Wednesdays 10am-12 with a light lunch afterwards

โI love how the class is for both the baby and the mum and how focused and natural it is โ compared to all the โstuffโ that comes with other baby classesโ Zoe

One week to go until our next pregnancy workshop!
Although we all know there is โone born every minuteโ, the birth of each of our babies is in fact a truly profound and transformative moment in our individual lives.
Lucyโs yoga workshops provide a space to honour and appreciate this journey as a rite of passage, and to connect with others along the way.
Save the dates and book your space:
Sundays 10am-12 with time for tea and chat afterwards
