I really want changes to be thought through and reviewed before implemented.

I don’t think it’s that much to ask really- safer sleep is just turning into one issue after another.

First a knee jerk email banning buggies for naps without full guidance available but being effective immediately.

Then the guidance becomes available changing things from the original email such as falling asleep in a buggy is ok on a walk but then transfer when back at setting, again effective immediately.

Now DfE have sent clarification emails about coracles to membership organisations and not yet updated their guidance.

Come September will it all seem different again with the EYFS update?

People have spent hundreds of pounds on changing equipment for the effective immediately updates, only for these to be withdrawn and changed, disallowing previously allowed equipment within mere months.

Some settings even spent thousands, now non returnable and unusable because they’ve been slept on in between these dribs and drabs.

We all want the best and safest options for the children in our care, but we want the right information from day 1.

This just screams disorganisation from the top down.

This is unacceptable.

Our membership organisations need to demand clear and effective guidance from the outset with time to adjust (even if a short time frame, we need time for purchasing and delivery!) Guidance that has been throughouly reviewed and checked for discrepancies before released into the sector so we can actually work and implement what we need to.

This is inefficient, a waste of funds (public ones at that if you consider funding) and causing confusion over something that is vital!

This is how mistakes happen, because it’s impossible to keep up with ‘did you read that email’ ‘oh but I read guidance that said something else’

Regards- a childminder who is quite frankly feeling like pulling their hair out!
Ps I’m sure I’m not the only one!
