Today, Miss Williamson had the pleasure of presenting to the Northumberland School Improvement Team, sharing the incredible work taking place at Acomb First School around our Acomb Skills, project-based learning and the meaningful links we make to careers and future aspirations.
A huge thank you to our fantastic pupils, Grace and Elijah, who joined the presentation by video and spoke so confidently about their learning experiences. They were outstanding ambassadors for our school, demonstrating the enthusiasm, knowledge and skills that make us so proud.
It was wonderful to showcase how our curriculum helps children develop the skills, confidence and understanding they need for their future, while making learning engaging, purposeful and connected to the wider world.
Well done, Grace and Elijah, and thank you for representing Acomb so brilliantly! ⭐️

Through our Acomb Skills and project-based learning, we help children develop these essential employability skills from an early age, preparing them for the opportunities and careers of the future.

This week in Maths, we used ten frames and counters to develop our understanding of addition.

The children practised using the language of *first*, *then* and *now* to explain their thinking. For example:

First, Mrs Shaw gave us 5 counters.
Then, she added 3 more counters.
Now, there are 8 counters altogether.

The children enjoyed counting carefully, representing numbers on ten frames, and explaining how the total changed when more counters were added. Great mathematical thinking and fantastic use of mathematical vocabulary!

Maple Class have been busy developing their maths skills by using money to make different amounts! The children showed fantastic teamwork and problem-solving skills as they worked together to calculate totals, explore different combinations of coins, and explain their thinking to one another.
It was wonderful to see such resilience, collaboration, and confidence in action as they tackled each challenge. Well done, Maple Class!

What an incredible afternoon of outdoor adventure and creativity! 🌿🛠️
Our children worked together to design and build multiple dens, showing fantastic teamwork, problem-solving and imagination. Some groups even went the extra mile by creating wooden floors for their dens or building stone walls, turning them into impressive woodland hideaways!
There was plenty of innovation on display as children engineered their own swings and tested them out with great excitement. Of course, no afternoon in the woods would be complete without a visit to the infamous mud slide, which proved just as popular as ever and brought lots of laughter, smiles and muddy memories!
Miss Williamson particularly enjoyed carrying out the all-important water tests on the dens, with the children safely tucked inside to see if their creations could withstand the elements! Thankfully, there were plenty of squeals, giggles and proud faces as the dens were put through their paces. 💦🏕️
A wonderful afternoon spent exploring, creating and enjoying the great outdoors. 🌳😊

We are so proud of our Year 4 children, who were each presented with a special certificate from their group leader at Robinwood. These certificates celebrate just how wonderful they are and recognise all of their achievements throughout the experience.

Even Miss Williamson and Mr Kendall received one too – a lovely reminder that everyone played a part in making the experience so special!

Each child should feel incredibly proud – their efforts, positivity, and successes have truly shone. Well done, Year 4!

Through focus, patience, and thoughtful attention, these pupils have shown just how powerful great listening can be. Whether it’s following instructions, understanding others, or contributing meaningfully in class, their efforts have truly stood out.

Listening is such an important life skill, and these children have demonstrated it brilliantly. Keep up the fantastic work — your dedication is inspiring!

It's half term, that means kids go free! We started it here to help out North East families and now it's going nationwide.

So, lost for what to do in the holidays? Well the bus, Metro, and the Shields Ferry will allow free travel for up to three children aged 11 and under, when travelling with an adult with a valid ticket or concessionary pass holder. So, why not make the most of the sunny (hopefully!) weather and explore our beautiful region. 🏙️ 🏕️ ⛱️ ☀️ 🚌
