The club is designed to give children a supportive space to explore their interest in art and design, focusing on learning new practical skills and building confidence in their own ability. Classes are currently offered as a block booking of usually 6 weeks. This allows children to engage in a range of different craft activities and gain useful skills that they can use in the future. We aim to balance activities so that some projects will be completed in one session, but on the whole will take 1-2 to complete. This is because we want our wee artists to have time to create at the own pace, make mistakes and learn how to take a different path. The project may have several stages and we'll also me using materials that need to dry for the following session. In addition to our main craft of the week, children may have the opportunity to complete a simple drawing task if they feel like doing something else...we want to provide choice. If they bring this home with them, trust that the are working on other projects too! I'm the craft leader and creator of Art Sparks. With two young boys myself I appreciate the time, effort and expense (let alone the mess!) that crafting can mean for busy parents. Sometimes it all feels like too much work...but at the same time I've also observed how my boys can focus on a creative activity for so long and put so much effort in! Isn't this what we want to be encouraging!? Ah a quiet household! Here's a bit of my CV...I have a degree in BA(Hons) Product Design and have worked in both graphic and 3D design roles as well as marketing. I also have a PGCE from the University of Southampton and have worked in adult education in a military environment. Since having my children and taking time out of full time work I spent some time volunteering in a primary school and then took up a Teaching Assistant position where I taught primary children and ran a lunchtime art club. I am a member of the PVG scheme and have public indemnity insurance to run children's' activities.
