Team impROVise from Keith Grammar School won the Scottish and European MATE ROV Regional Competition held at Robert Gordon University. Their dedication, innovation, and teamwork earned them the victory, and now they’re heading to the MATE ROV World Championship in St. John’s, Canada this June!
The MATE ROV competition challenges young engineers to design and present a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), built entirely from scratch. Team impROVise stood out not just for their technical expertise, but also for their resilience in overcoming challenges throughout the competition.
As they prepare for the World Championship, Team impROVise is now turning to the community for support. To help get them to Canada and represent Scotland and Europe on the global stage, they are raising funds for travel and logistics.
How can you help?
If you’re able to, please consider donating or sharing their fundraising campaign to help them reach their goal. Every bit counts!

Statement and appeal from our successful and aspirational ROV Team (Young Engineers.)
On the 15th of April, 2026, impROVise, Keith Grammar School’s ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) team took part in the MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) competition.
We proceeded to win, which has granted us the privilege of attending the engineering competition’s international final in St. John’s, Canada.
The competition requires us to structure ourselves as a company, making us give a presentation and product demos of a vehicle we built entirely from scratch.
As a team, we have faced many challenges, both before the event and during, but these difficulties have been quickly overcome. As our company tagline says: we are constantly working well under pressure. The competition from the other teams was fierce, adding even more to our drive for success.
We are thrilled to have the brilliant opportunity to represent not only ourselves, KGS and Moray, but also Scotland and even Europe on an international level at the stage we compete at. We, at impROVise, would like to extend the deepest of thanks to our local community and our sponsors for the fantastic level of support for our project.
We now move on to starting our fundraising drive. We would really appreciate if you could share this link with your network to help us reach our fundraising goal and get the whole team out to Canada - https://gofund.me/211ec66c7
Thank you
Team impROVise
