“Write down the first thing that pops into your head when I say Sustainable Fashion”

This was a quick wee task which I went around the studio asking what the first thing they think of when sustainable fashion is mentioned.
This gathered really good insights, common answers were;
Charity shopping, recycling, reworked/reusing.
The one that really got me thinking was “SHEIN” which is quite the opposite to sustainable fashion but gets you thinking about the branding of sustainable fashion and the media really only portrays the companies that aren’t rather than the ones that are 🤔

I wanted to gather some really quick honest options on what people do with their clothes when they no longer wish to wear them as well as where they donate them. And what ‘Sustainable Fashion’ means to them as a person and designers.

Apologies for the delays in posting been working too hard.
This is a follow up to my last post where I shared a wee feel of me rapid prototyping using fast fashion scraps.
1. This attempt is a wee armband for holding id cards or just when items don’t have a pocket.
2. A simple glasses frame.
3. A shoe sole using layering techniques
4. A small coin purse from the pocket of jeans

Last Tuesday we went for some walking tutorials. Walked to the mills observatory and then to the botanic gardens. Trying to explain a concept walking up hill was tirirjng to say the least 🫠 but we got there and I managed to settle on a project!

Brief: In small teams, you will conceive, design, prototype (full size– yet perhaps a detail rather than a whole space) and crafta working physical digital object or space. This will relate tothe brief of speaker and the Domus articles in some way. Itsinteraction should be through Arduino, Raspberry Pi or similarand could be quite simple. You should aim to build to a highquality within the limits of workshop access and facilities andyour own (growing) skills. Yet avoid a naïve craft aesthetic: aimfor a contemporary design language, involving the iteration thatdegree show-quality work would demand. All electronics andwiring should be elegantly integrated.
