REST IN PEACE DEAR GREENY
Our companion-on-wheels died in a fire on the 14th of Oktober, and is no longer with us.
The past week has been filled with all sorts of thoughts and feelings. A bit of everything. On the one hand, we were feeling excited about finishing the last videos from our tour through Europe last year. With the beginning of autumn it was exactly one year ago that we came back. We had planned a day of celebration, to eat pie and close a chapter. Because autumn is a good time to reflect, round up, to let go, as the leaves of the trees will fall too. So, we were feeling happy to mark the end of this journey.
The year before this year was filled with our camper travels and research. An outward journey to different countries and communities, to learn and grow through experience: With cob plastering, permaculture gardens and of course building our own tiny home on wheels (the van, that is!)
Coming back to the Netherlands in autumn last year, we commenced a journey inwards. We both had a difficult time. We seldomly posted and didn’t go anywhere. We both got therapy. Slowly, slowly and just recently, we felt new energy to write and edit, to work and dance again and meet people.
Then the police messaged us about the fire and disrupted that flow. Firemen, police and an expert concluded that the cause was a short-circuit in the starter battery. It’s a big emotional loss; not only the van, but a dear home, and our belongings. (Mostly Hilde her belongings as she was living in Greeny).
At the very moment of writing the post, we realize once again how, besides celebrations, mournings are an immanent part of this journey called life. We grief with the loss of Greeny. Yet we feel thankful for many shared adventures. Rest in Peace, dear Greeny.
