Isztambul macskái – a város szeretett négylábú lakói

Istanbul’s Cats – Beloved Four-Legged Residents of the City
In Istanbul, cats are not simply stray animals; they are a beloved and deeply rooted part of everyday city life. It is perfectly normal to see cats peacefully living alongside people in the streets, squares, parks, shops, restaurants, and around historic buildings. Many local residents feed, water, and care for them, while the city itself provides help in various places through small shelters, food bowls, and water stations.
This special relationship also has deep historical and religious roots. In Islamic tradition, cats are regarded as clean animals, and there are numerous stories and traditions associated with the Prophet Muhammad and cats. As a result, cats have traditionally been treated with particular affection and respect in many Muslim cultures. For this reason, it is not unusual to see a cat wandering into a mosque in Istanbul and in many places they are simply allowed to stay as long as they do not disturb people who are praying (see the two sleepy cats at the entrance of the Blue Mosque).
Istanbul’s cats have therefore become almost symbols of the city itself. They are not necessarily pets belonging to a single owner; in a sense, they belong to the whole community. A single cat may have several people looking after it: local residents, a shop owner, restaurant workers, or members of a mosque community. Perhaps this is what makes Istanbul so special: the city does not belong only to its human inhabitants. Cats freely roam the streets, wander into shops (they’re lying on top of the air conditioner, just like the one in the top right corner), rest in the shade of historic buildings, and sometimes share the quiet atmosphere of a mosque with the people inside. Together, the two-legged and four-legged residents create the unique living culture of Istanbul.

A Castello Sforzesco (Sforza-vár) Milánó egyik legjelentősebb építészeti alkotása. A jobb alsó fotó Milánó egyik ikonikus kilátótornyából a Torre Branca-ból készült, amely a Parco Sempione park területén található, közvetlenül a Castello Sforzesco közelében. Az 1933-ban épült, 108,6 méter magas acéltorony Milánó városának egyik legmagasabb és legkülönlegesebb építménye, ahonnan lélegzetelállító panoráma nyílik a városra. A tornyot eredetileg Torre Littoria néven ismerték, és a híres olasz építész és dizájner, Gio Ponti tervezte. A letisztult, modernista stílusú acélszerkezet a modern építészet egyik remekművének számít, és a milánói látkép jellegzetes eleme. (Forrás: https://iranymilano.hu és Wikipédia)

The Castello Sforzesco (Sforza Castle) is one of Milan’s most significant architectural landmarks. Built in the 15th century, this massive, square-shaped structure was once the residence of the Dukes of Milan. Its construction was commissioned by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan. It was formerly known as the Castello di Porta Giovia, named after one of the gates in the medieval city wall, near which it stood. It received its current name during restorations in the early 19th century, when the building became the property of the city. Behind the Castello Sforzesco, in the heart of the city, lies Parco Sempione, one of Milan’s largest and most beautiful urban parks. Created in 1893 in the tradition of Italian landscape architecture, the park is a natural green space that provides a place for those seeking relaxation, sports, and outdoor activities. The park’s name derives from the word “sempione,” meaning “simplicity,” and refers to the simple yet elegant approach to the park’s design. The photo on the bottom right was taken from one of Milan’s iconic observation towers, the Torre Branca, located within Parco Sempione, right next to the Castello Sforzesco. Built in 1933, the 108.6-meter-tall steel tower is one of the tallest and most distinctive structures in the city of Milan, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. The tower was originally known as Torre Littoria and was designed by the famous Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti. The sleek, modernist-style steel structure is considered a masterpiece of modern architecture and a distinctive feature of the Milan skyline. (Source: https://iranymilano.hu and Wikipedia)

Emellett a művészek jól ismert központja is. / The Navigli is a network of interconnected canals in and around Milan, in the Lombardy region of Italy, with a history dating back to the Middle Ages. Originally used for transportation and freight, the stones for Milan Cathedral were even transported to the construction site via the canals. Today, they are primarily used for irrigation, and certain sections serve as tourist attractions, lined with numerous bars and restaurants. It is also a well-known hub for artists.

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is Italy’s oldest shopping arcade still in operation today and one of Milan’s most important landmarks. It is a four-story, double-row arcade located in the city centre. It is named after Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. The building was designed by architect Giuseppe Mengoni, who oversaw its construction between 1865 and 1877.
The structure consists of two glass-roofed arcades that intersect in an octagon and cover the street between Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Scala. The street is covered by an arched glass and cast-iron roof, a popular design for 19th-century arcades, such as London’s Burlington Arcade, which served as the prototype for larger glass-covered shopping arcades. The roof consists of four barrel vaults (approximately 14.5 m wide and 8.5 m high), crowned by a massive dome (with an internal diameter of approximately 37.5 m and a height of 17.10 m).
