Our final day in Paris brought us to the Seine River for a boat cruise. We saw all of the sights including the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Alexander III Bridge, the Pont Neuf, the Orsay Museum, the Louvre Museum, Les Invalides and Napoleon’s burial site. After a photo shoot in front of the Eiffel Tower and Olympic rings, we gathered one last time for a farewell dinner where we reminisced about the trip, laughed a lot and celebrated two special birthdays! It may be goodbye for now, but the memories and friendships will never end.

Day 10: The day began with a guided tour of the Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation. This memorial honors the 200,000 people deported from France to N**i concentration camps during WWII. It’s a solemn, evocative site with narrow, stone corridors, inscriptions, and symbolic architecture designed to convey a sense of confinement. We reconvened in the evening for a "Dark Side" of Paris guided walking tour
where we learned all about the lesser-known history of Paris. Our guide told us stories about the secrets of Paris’ landmarks, such as Notre Dame, The Catacombs and the mysterious characters who once roamed and terrorized Parisian streets and alleys.

Our Sun Devils enjoyed a free afternoon in Paris and here is how they chose to spend it!

Day 9: We started the day with a study session focused on Dark Tourism and then made our way to the Musée de la Libération de Paris – Musée du Général Leclerc – Musée Jean Moulin which traces the story of France from the N**i occupation in 1940 to the liberation of Paris in 1944 through photographs, personal belongings, military artifacts, propaganda posters, archival documents, and multimedia exhibits. After a lunch break we made our way miles beneath Paris with an audio-guided tour of the Paris Catacombs which is a macabre labyrinth housing the remains of more than six million people. The bones were transferred from overcrowded Paris cemeteries between the late 18th and mid-19th centuries. The day wrapped up with a visit to the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens.

Day 8: The day started with a guided tour of the Père Lachaise cemetery. The largest necropolis in Paris, the Père Lachaise cemetery extends over 4.7 million square feet and contains 70,000 burial plots. It is the final resting place of a number of famous men and women, including Frédéric Chopin, Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, and others as well as a beautiful section dedicated to victims of the Holocaust. Students enjoyed a free night and we are excited to share how they spent their time tomorrow!

Hey everyone, check out ASU/NAU/UofA's 13th annual Genocide Awareness Week conference! I'm facilitating a Student Panel on Monday, March 31st at 1:45 - there is so much other amazing programming - you can even Zoom in!
With special focus on the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide and the murder and displacement of Native American communities, Genocide Awareness Week 2025 will bring different cultures of remembrance, memorialization and repair after genocide in conversation with each other. The importance of survivor testimony, the need to bring perpetrators to justice, the power and limits of representation in text and art, as well as the difficulty to represent the complexity of genocide through memorialization are shared features of confronting genocide. Equally important is the need to counter genocide denial and distortion. Starting from common themes such as these, GAW fosters dialogues among survivors, academics, activists, artists, and government officials through presentations, performances, discussions, and exhibits.
