Letter Bingo💥 the girls had lots of fun finding the pictures that matched the beginning sound on their boards. You can make this slightly harder by using CVC words and then they have to find the picture that matches the words.

Some of the things we do in our emergent literacy lessons📚

Rhyming: before children can learn to read they must learn to hear the individual parts of spoken speech.

Letter recognition: in order for children to decode words, they need to be able to identify letters by their shapes, names and sounds.

Decoding words: the ability to apply their knowledge of letter-sound relationships to pronounce written words.

Writing practice : writing is encoding. We are taking a spoken sound and translating it into a visual symbol. When a child writes, they are working the exact same cognitive muscles as reading—just in reverse.

10 little ducks went swimming one day... 🦆✨

We turned a classic nursery rhyme into a hands-on math lesson! By physically removing the ducks from the "pond," the kiddos aren't just memorizing numbers—they’re actually visualizing subtraction and learning what "one less" really means.

This week we used CVC word puzzles to help the girls to learn how to read. They had to decode the words and then find the matching pictures.

This week's lesson. We used blending cards to learn how to read CVC words, read about our favourite letterland characters and did the "p" sound workbook. 🌞

This week, we did alphabet bowling 🎳.

A great way to help the girls learn the alphabet sounds through play! I stuck letters on the skittles and once they had knocked them down, they had to read the sounds of the letters on the fallen skittles.

This week we learnt about the "t" sound. We normally go over all the letters at the start of the lesson and then deep dive into one specific letter in the second half of the lesson. We practice writing the letter, reading stories with predominantly that letter, and identify the letter shape and sound.

The booklet used in the reel can be found here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/store/learningbugsco

Please DM if your child needs tutoring in any subject 👩‍🏫

This week we played Letter Hopscotch!

The focus was on end sounds! A tricker one for early readers to grasp, but important for them to master so they can blend words with ease!

Here’s how we played the game:
1️⃣ I called out a word.
2️⃣ The kids had to figure out what sound it ended with.
3️⃣ Then they hopped down the grid to land right on the correct ending letter!

Why do we learn this way?
Because tying physical movement to language creates massive memory retention. When learning feels like play, the concepts actually stick.
