🇫🇷 French verb of the day: S’EN ALLER (to leave, to go away)
You’ll hear it all the time in French, but it can be tricky! 😅
Why is it hard? There are two little words before the verb: me/te/se… + en.
✨ Present tense
• Je m’en vais
• Tu t’en vas
• Il/Elle/On s’en va
• Nous nous en allons
• Vous vous en allez
• Ils/Elles s’en vont
🗣️ Examples
• Je m’en vais, à demain ! → I’m leaving, see you tomorrow!
• Il s’en va à 18h. → He leaves at 6 pm.
• Allez-vous-en ! → Go away! (strong!)
💡 Good news: you can use PARTIR instead!
• Je m’en vais = Je pars
• Tu t’en vas = Tu pars
• Nous nous en allons = Nous partons
Je pars à 18h is simpler and always correct. ✅
⚠️ Careful with the tone
Va-t’en ! sounds rude. With partir, no risk: Pars ! is softer, and Je dois partir is polite.
👉 Your turn! Rewrite this sentence with partir:
“Nous nous en allons demain.”
