A week ago, we concluded the 21st edition of our International Summer Seminar. For more than 20 years now, our Institute has been organizing this one-week event every summer, welcoming around 40 participants each year in La Chapelle-Saint-André, a small village in Burgundy, France. In recent years, about 30 additional participants have also been joining us online.
This year, the group was a bit smaller offline, which gave every philosophical practitioner the opportunity to facilitate a workshop and receive feedback. It also brought a greater diversity of perspectives and ways of working, allowing the whole group to deepen their practice, challenge their thinking, and become familiar with different approaches.
Altogether, our offline and online participants came from more than 20 countries across the globe, gathering to think and philosophize together. It was a beautiful mix of cultures, ideas, practices, and subjectivities, united by one common ground: the importance of logos. For one week, we formed a community of reason, where our individual perspectives remained distinct, yet were brought together by something greater than each of them.
We explored themes such as existential discipline, how to use AI for more rigorous thinking, the interpretation of art, the collective practice of questioning, working with philosophical texts and stories, how to construct strong arguments, philosophical counselling, and more.
A beautiful and intense week: difficult and challenging, yet motivating and transformative. A philosophical boot camp, and an experience worth having at least once.
Perhaps we’ll see you there next summer!
