The Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro extends his heartfelt encouragement and best wishes to all the Year 5 and Year 7 students for the 2026 Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LANA) which commences tomorrow, 21 July with Literacy paper followed by Numeracy paper on Wednesday, 22 July.
βAs you prepare for and approached the 2026 Literacy and Numeracy Assessment, remember that this exercise is a noteworthy turning point, marking not only the result of your determination and perseverance but also a stepping stone towards enhancing your literacy and numeracy skills,β he said.
The Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LANA) is a national diagnostic assessment that reflects studentsβ basic Literacy and Numeracy skills. The LANA assessment should be completed by Wednesday July 22, followed by the scheduled catch up sessions from July 23 and July 24 (Thursday and Friday).
This year a total of 17,945 Year 5 students are registered for LANA in 717 centres whereas for Year 7 a total of 19,336 students are registered in 720 centres.
In 2025 a total of 18,397 Year 5 students in 722 centres and 19, 559 Year 7 students were registered for LANA in 720 centres and in 2024 a total of 18,835 Year 5 in 718 centres and 18, 340 Year 7 students were registered for LANA in 705 centres.
The Education Minister urges all parents and guardians of Year 5 and Year 7 students to provide the necessary support to their children as they undertake LANA.
Hon. Radrodro further reminds the Heads of Schools to ensure that LANA is conducted as scheduled and in line with the stipulated guidelines and hopes that the outcome of this assessment will pave the way for intervention programmes that schools can implement all primary levels to facilitate and enhance the students learning needs in literacy and numeracy.
