❄️ Day 3 of the 2026 EDISS Winter School in Helsinki!
Today started with an inspiring session at Nokia, where our EDISS Intake 5 students presented the outcomes of their Data-Intensive Engineering course projects. Their work showcased how data-intensive methods, AI, and interdisciplinary thinking can tackle complex challenges across science, healthcare, and energy systems.
🔬 Project highlights included:
• AI-assisted compression and visualisation of molecular dynamics data
• XRAI and beyond – exploring explainable AI for real-time clinical reporting
• An offline LLM assistant for bioinformatics pipelines in the COHESIVE platform
• Battery health analysis in highly distributed virtual power plants
• Interpretable cancer dynamics modelling combining Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks and evolutionary game theory

❄️ Day 1 of the 2026 EDISS Winter School in Helsinki!

An exciting start to this year’s winter school as our first-year students explored their future academic paths and learned more about their second-year university options across the EDISS consortium.

We were also delighted to host two inspiring talks on the intersection of AI and quantum technologies.
🎤 Debayan Bhattacharya from presented insights into the current landscape of AI for quantum computing, highlighting both recent advances and open research challenges.
🎤 Ashish Dahal from IQM Quantum Computers shared an industry perspective on how AI is shaping the development and optimisation of quantum hardware.

From academic pathways to cutting-edge research at the frontier of AI and quantum computing, Day 1 set the tone for an inspiring week ahead.

Stay tuned for more highlights from the 2026 EDISS Winter School! 🚀✨

✨ EDISS Alumni Lunch & Networking Session ✨
We were delighted to host today an EDISS alumni lunch and meeting, bringing together our alumni and Intake 5 students for an engaging exchange of experiences, insights, and career guidance. EMA EDISS Representative, along with EMA Representatives for Turkey and Finland, added great value to the discussions and strengthened our international EDISS–EMA connections.
A meaningful reminder of the power of community, mentorship, and staying connected across cohorts and countries. 🌍🤍

As part of the Data Intensive Engineering course, we held today the second presentation session for our Intake 5 students.
This course is a research-driven, project-based experience that spans the entire academic year, giving students the opportunity to engage deeply with real research challenges. This year’s projects focus on the following topics: 👇
- AI-Assisted Compression and Visualisation of Molecular Dynamics Data
- XRAI and Beyond – Understanding the themes of explainable AI while developing real-time explainable AI-based clinical reports
- Developing an offline LLM Assistant for Bioinformatics Pipelines in the COHESIVE platform
- Integrating Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks and Evolutionary Game Theory for Interpretable Cancer Dynamics and Biologically Plausible Equation Discovery
- Battery health analysis of a very distributed Virtual Power Plant
