Question from a student: is it true that KPT rule never applies to nouns' partitive case? Good question, but no. It is not true.

Suomessa pienikin ero vokaalissa tai konsonantin pituudessa voi muuttaa koko lauseen merkityksen. Katso vaikka näitä sanapareja ja -kolmikoita:

Hylly – hillo – hullu:

📔Kirja on hyllyllä.
🥖Leivän päällä on hilloa.
🤪Älä nyt hulluja puhu!

🐟 Kala – kela – kylä:

Kala ui järvessä.
Kela pyörii nopeasti.
Kylä sijaitsee järven rannalla.

🍾 Pullo – pallo – pellolla

Pullo on pöydällä.
Pallo on pihalla.
Pellolla kasvaa viljaa.

Kuulostavatko sanat melkein samoilta?
Ei hätää, m***a kannattaa kuunnella tarkasti sekä vokaalia, että kaksoiskonsonanttia.

Esimerkiksi hylly, hillo ja hullu eroavat toisistaan vokaalien lisäksi myös merkitykseltään, ja pullo 🍾, sekä pallo 🎾sisältävät eri vokaalin.

How Kielenrauhaa started 🎬

My path into language teaching is somewhat unusual, and that's part of what makes my approach actually work so well.

I was first qualified and registered as a practical nurse in 2004, and spent years working in Finnish social and healthcare. Later I moved and lived years in Spain, which is where my relationship with the Spanish language deepened from interest into fluency.

After becoming a parent, I returned to academic study and enrolled at Tampere University to study my own mother tongue Finnish (suomen kieli) formally for bachelor's & master's degree, with Spanish and literature as minor subjects.

Kielenrauhaa was founded as the bridge between those worlds: the practical, person-centered communication skills I learned in healthcare, the lived experience of learning a second language abroad, and the linguistic depth of a university-level Finnish education.

October Finnish YKI training starts 31. August📚

In YKI training course you will practice and prepare yourself for all four skills and subtests of the YKI test:
- Speaking: you learn storytelling, expressing opinions, and discuss about YKI topics such as nature, news, free time, hobbies, music, arts, and skills
- Writing: You will write messages and emails, opinion & blog texts in Finnish and receive feedback from the teacher
- Listening comprehension: You comprehend authentic spoken Finnish, Complete listening tasks during lessons and in homework assignments
- Reading comprehension: Read authentic intermediate-level texts in Finnish, news articles, stories, opinion texts, messages, instructions, and announcements

The course includes:
15 teacher-led lessons
homework assignments
individual feedback from the teacher
