In Ethiopia, Christmas is called ‘Gena’ and it means ‘a day of glory’. The naming of the day as Gena has a direct connection with the birth of Christ.

Gena is a glorious day of joy for all Christians in Ethiopia and all over the world.

In the western world, Gena falls on January 7, but according to the Ethiopian calendar, it falls on the 29th day of the month of “Tahesass.” This month is called Tahesass to remember the act of the three kings who made the long search of finding the birthplace of the Christ and brought him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Tahesass means “searching.”

Gena in Ethiopia is celebrated both religiously and culturally. Today, we want to share with you one cultural aspect of the holiday.

On Gena, Ethiopians (mostly those living in the rural) come together to play a game called “yegena chewata,” which literary means “a game of Gena.” This cultural game has existed for centuries and it holds an important religious meaning in it.

On the day Christ was born, angels from heaven came down to Bethlehem to rejoice the birth of Christ together with the shepherds, who were considered the lowest-ranked members of the community. The game of Gena is symbolic to help us remember that the birth of Christ brought joy to the world with no discrimination!💚💛❤️

The child was named Lidj Tafari (Lidj meaning Prince, Tafari -"One who is to be feared ") and he grew up with great wise mind and knowledge, and the regard of a Prodigy.
At the age of 7 He could speak 3 languages. At the age of 13 He became governor, and at the age of 24 He was crowned Regent Plenipotentiary... In 1928 at the age of 36 He was crowned NEGUS or KING. And on Movember 2nd 19 30 He was again crowned, this time as King Of Kings, Lord Of Lords, Conquering Lion Of Judah, Elect Of Himself, Light Of The World, King Of Zion, in the presence of world leaders or their representatives. The Centenary OF HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY EMPEROR HAILE SELASSIE THE FIRST

The 23r of July 2021 highlighted one of most significant landmarks in the history of the Rastafari movement.On that day Rastafari sons n daughters celebrated 129 years anniversary of the birth of their Divine Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I the Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David,the King of Kings Lord of Lords and the Light of this world.

Those who are aware of the history of Ithiopia (African) can never forget the mystical manifestations of His birth on on the 23rd of July 1892.
The prolonged drought had parched the ground making life very difficult for man and beast, and the populace prayed for rain as all their crops has died. Meanwhile, Ras Makonnen and Wayzero Yashimabet not only prayed for rain but prayed that this time the child she was about to deliver would live, as in the past all seven children had died prematurely.

BIRTH OF HAILE SELASSIE FIRST
It was the 23rd July 1892 and the process of childbearing was in motion. Wayzero Yeshimabet was accompanied by a throng if midwives who were present to ensure that all necessary assistance and reassurance be imparted to her.
Prayers went up for her safe delivery, and the entire province of Harar were in silent meditation.
Meanwhile Ras Makonnen marched from one corner of his long verandah (to another) hoping and praying that it was a son and that this time he would live.
The heavens above became darkened with clouds not seen in a long while, as the chant of the midwives break the utter quietness of the night. Soon, the midwives rushed outside where Ras Makonnen was waiting, " A Son is born!" While the villagers fired their rifles gleefully in the air.
Ras Makonnen rushed inside to behold his only begotten Son of the line of King David, while the midwife wiped a little butter and honey on the childs lips as was the custom.
The torrential downpour continued with the barrage of thundering and lightening and the whole of Ithiopia knew that something very significant had happened. The prolonged drought had ended at the instant of the childs birth, and a bright light shone from the Universe, described by scientists as one of the brightest Comets. Surely this was synonymous to the which appeared at Christ birth and was the fulfillment of Isaiah: 9v6
The downpour however did not prevent people from all part of the province from going their way to Ras Makonnen's House to pay respect🔥🔥🔥
