Updates on Marburg virus in Ethiopia 🇪🇹

UPDATE: MARBURG VIRUS DISEASE
Today, one person has died from the Marburg virus, and it has been reported that two additional individuals have tested positive for the virus.
According to the Ministry of Health, out of 13 laboratory tests conducted today, two more people have tested positive for the Marburg virus.
The newly confirmed patient who tested positive today was previously isolated in Jinka, in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR), where they were under medical supervision.
In addition, one person has died today from the virus, bringing the total confirmed deaths from Marburg to four.
Since the outbreak was first reported, 46 laboratory tests have been conducted in total, and eight people have been confirmed to be infected with the virus. Among them, four are currently under medical care.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health did not issue a separate update regarding the two additional Marburg cases reported in yesterday’s laboratory results.

Welcome to One Health Workforce Academies Introduction to Outbreak Investigation and Response Training
Continuous professional development (CPD) is vital for adapting to advancements in medical science, emerging diseases, and evolving healthcare needs. It also reflects their dedication to public health, professional excellence, and lifelong learning
Veterinarians and medical doctors are ethically and professionally obligated to regularly develop and update their professional skills through continuing education and training. This commitment ensures they remain competent, informed, and capable of delivering safe, evidence-based, and high-quality care to both humans and animals.
Introduction to Outbreak Investigation and Response Training
This dynamic training course spans 11 online modules and provides a basic introduction to the principles and concepts of a comprehensive One Health approach to investigating the origins or cause of a zoonotic disease outbreak or other disease event in animals or people. Each module is comprised of an introduction, specific lessons related to the subject matter, and a quiz to assess learner competency, final examination to get digital certificate after met courses completions and assessments. An integrative case-study spans the entire breadth of the course and includes key concepts learned in the didactic portions to help solidify and illustrate the key learning objectives. Its expected that each module will require between one and two hours to complete.
Additional supplemental readings provided in the “One Health Resource Library” could extend this time depending on the participant’s level of interest and personal desire to learn more of the course contents.
