Third quarter 2018 Performance Report and Evaluation
The College of Health Sciences and Ambo University Referral Hospital presented its third quarter performance and evaluation report for 2018, showcasing remarkable progress across medical services, education, research, and community engagement.
The medical service vice corporate director highlighted that outpatient per capita service exceeded planned targets, while new specialized services such as pediatric oncology, dialysis under nephrologist supervision, culture testing, and MRI diagnostics were successfully launched. With the expansion to 22 specialist and subspecialty services, the hospital demonstrated its growing capacity to deliver advanced healthcare.
On the academic front, teaching and learning activities continued to meet national standards, reflected in strong national exit exam pass rates. Curriculum reviews were completed for ten programs, ensuring relevance and quality.
Students also contributed to social responsibility through the DTTP program, building homes for low-income families and directly addressing community challenges.
Again, Research and community engagement were equally vibrant, with numerous studies conducted, disseminated, and published in international journals. In collaboration with the West Shoa Health Office, Oromia Health Bureau, and Fenot Associate NGO, the institution carried out a preliminary assessment of health and related problems, identifying issues that could be addressed through research and community service.
Infrastructure development within the hospital campus was highlighted as exemplary, while the Academic and Medical Service Quality Improvement and Innovation Corporate Director emphasized that continuous monitoring, control, and corrective measures have driven transformational improvements in both healthcare and education quality.
Finally, the chief executive director expressed deep appreciation to staff who, despite fuel shortages and lack of transportation, served their community by walking on foot. Certificates of recognition were awarded to outstanding units such as the dialysis and oncology units, as well as to individuals contributing to water supply and fluid management.
Guided by the principle, “We work together for better health, with a sense of quality over quantity,” the College of Health Sciences and Ambo University Referral Hospital continues to strengthen its role as a leader in healthcare, education, and community service.
