How are you?

In Amharic we have got four kinds of you:
Masculine
Feminine
Respect and plural

አንተ : ante : you (masculine)
አንቺ: antchi : you (feminine)
እርሶ: erso : you (respect)
እናንተ: enante : you (plural)

መሆን : Mehon : verb to be

ነክ: nek: you are (masculine)
ነሽ: nesh: you are (feminine)
ኖት:not: you are (respect)
ናቹ: natchu: you are (plural)

When asking questions mainly in greetings we tend to use the following words
Endet
Endemen
Dehna

Which can be sum up as what / how

How are you?

We say :

ደህና ነህ: dehna neh?
ደህና ነሽ: dehna nesh?
ደህና ኖት: dehna not?
ደህና ናቹ: dehna natchu?

This is a literal translation of the sentence. We use this form of greeting in a very formal context.

The term selam means peace and when it is used in greetings it means hi/hello. You can use it any time to anyone.
